Paul Laing
My UK brakes are looking like they need a lick of paint, i was going to buy one of these caliper kits for £20 as i have some nice chrome Supra stickers to go on thanks to gordon F, would you all recommend these paint kits or would you recommend taking the calipers off? How would i do this, would i have to drain all the brake fluid? Any help would be appreciated, cheers, Paul
Wipeout
I did mine on the car and it seems fine, just took my time with a small brush. See pic Front
Wipeout
I used one of the kits from halfords, Flotecc or something like that. I sanded the old paint off, cleaned them up and slapped it on. Rear pic Oops forgot pic

supra dan
i used this on my old 200sx, its called foliatec i think. it was pretty good, i used red. only thing was you couldnt keep any for touch ups as it has to be used in one go. i left the callipers on the car. Paul Laing
Yeah i'm gonna do mine just like the ones in those pics, very nice!!!!! Cheers lads, Paul
Paul
Yeah, did mine with that stuff too, Foliatec. Couple of points, mix the paint and hardener in two halves, not all at once as it goes off a bit and gets thicker. One half front calipers the other for the rear. Also put some clear heat resistant laquer on after the supra logos to 'seal' them, tip from someone on here, seems to work well Paul
Chris Wilson
If anyone wants to do a proper job of painting their calipers I can bead blast them back to clean metal, then you can be sure the paint will adhere. The best surface treatment is powder coating but you'd need to strip the pistons out and renew the seals on re-assembly. It would be about 35 quid to bead blast both front calipers. ad500
I used the foliatac stuff a few weeks back. Mixing in 2 halves does work well, it would be impossible to do all 4 without the paint hardening. For sanding i used one of those copy "proline" dremmel tools from B+Q. £15 for the tool and a shed load of various detail grinding attachments, variable 27000rpm motor aswell. Obviously not as good as bead blasting but way quicker than sanding. Almost changed my mind half way through and tried to sand then polish the rears to chrome like "pooshda" did on supraforums. A very effective tool, mine came up with almost no imperfections after applying the paint. The kit btw does not come with a paintbrush and because the paint is very sticky it will yank the hairs out of a cheap brush, so go for a good one. Sharpie
Paul, Dude, Can you recommend a lacquer that I can buy to put over the supra decal ? and where could I buy it from ? Halfords or somewhere else. Would I need to go to an art shop for a good brush ? Note: When doing DIY I have used all kinds of brushes from B&Q and it does not matter how much you spend on them, you always loose hairs This is going to be my first "Get your hands dirty" job on the car rather than pay someone
Paul Laing
Dude, those brakes were meant for superior UK Spec cars! Not inferior J-specs!!! Paul

The bristles are incredibly fine and soft and none fell out during the whole process. Just remember "do not" ask her before you borrow and throw away all evidence after. Paul
You ain't after a glass smooth finish really, remember that these are cast so aren't that smooth in the beginning! Also, the caliper paint is a two pack type and isn't runny like emulsion, put in on with a reasonable brush, dabbing it on. Be generous with the paint without letting it run and it will 'float' out smoothish as it dries. I then used heat resistant engine laquer from the local motorists shop, this not only seals the stickers on but gives more of a gloss and a more even finish to them. Don't go and buy a tarty paint brush as you'll shag it and won't be able to clean it unless you have the right thinners, not neccesary anyway IMO Cheers, Paul. Gordon F
Originally posted by Paul You ain't after a glass smooth finish really, remember that these are cast so aren't that smooth in the beginning! You will also find that the front calipers are half aluminium and half steel. The rears are all aluminium. The steel bit on the front is the side that shows thro' the wheel so, even after they have been beadblasted, they are not totally smooth.Rears look really good though. I used a high temp black aerosol on mine, put the decals on, and sprayed over with clear high temp lacquer.
