Soop Dogg
So sorry to hear of how this one turned out. Both myself and Angie are sitting here with tears in our eyes now. We know just how you feel mate. You did the right thing in letting him go the way you did. What a gorgeous dog he was. Losing a friend is never easy. We know just how you feel mate. You did the right thing in letting him go the way you did. What a gorgeous dog he was. Losing a friend is never easy. Reading this has started me off again, but it's OK I've been like this all day:) I'm convinced we had no real choice anyway which is some sort of odd comfort in that his condition made the decision for us really. He was gorgeous, a great dog and many that knew him have shed a tear or two today besides us.

Kopite
Thanks and sorry to hear about another, what happend to her dog? Some sort of illness as well i think, she was sayin that he was that weak that when they picked him up that his head just flopped down as he couldn't hold it up There was another woman in with a big shiny furred dog who was cryin when she saw her coming out, she was saying she knows how it felt because although her dog looked healthy, he was about to be put down due to a brain tumour too Just devastating... Paul
Sorry to hear this mate, hope thigns are looking up now. Is he insured? Thanks, yeah he was insured but not sure what we can claim back yet and not too concerned. We've always insured our dogs but it's been at the back of our minds with this, we told the vet from the outset that money wasn't an object as we could cover most things and even if it meant selling the Supra I would have to pay for his treatment as he meant so much to us. Steve mentioned that an MRI scan could have cost £2K and we had discussed last night that if it helped him and it was suggested we would have happily paid out regardless. Not that we're loaded but after 11 years we feel that we owed it to him to do all we can, sadly it wasn't enough. Treasure every moment with your new dogs Rosie, we did with ours and have such good memories. Paul

I don't know her but give her my best. That's what's hard about Sam, otherwise healthy, so sudden and no warning? As I said the vet commented on what great condition he was in in all other aspects. In a way that was good as it meant he didn't suffer and he was the same dog right till yesterday morning. Paul

Homer
Really sorry to hear this Paul, been in the same situation several times before and its always upsetting. Seems there are a lot of people here who love their pets and have had to deal with them passing on, unfortunately this is a guaranteed part of pet ownership (Unless you own a giant tortoise ). I've lost 3 pets during my youth, all of which I loved dearly. My dog (a golden retriever) died a couple of years ago at the grand age of 15 and I felt terrible for weeks. My last cat, Whiskey, is living with my parents but is not too well now, even though he is 18 years old. Would be surprised if he sees 19 (though that’s not bad going). Look on the other side of the coin... there's just so many dogs out there that would really appreciate your care and attention. If you feel something 'missing' in the next weeks or months, perhaps you could look to the animal shelters for animals in need of a loving home? markymark
Really sad news. Losing a dog is horrible - been through it more times than I'd like to think about. It never gets easier, but don't let it put you off getting another dog. Some people I know have gone through a traumatic time with a family pet, and decide they could never go through it again. I say that one of the best self-help methods is to get another dog (as was suggested) from a dog home that needs love & trust me, it'll not take the pain away, but it will help you focus on something else! Coming into an empty house is the worst part! Our thoughts are with you
sarjo
Paul Have been so busy at work havent had time to catch up until now. Gutted, damp eyed and heavy hearted for you. Taking my next two hours worth of work home with me for later and clearing off home now to take Russ my springer spaniel for a walk to the beach and a swim in the sea. I remember the day I bought Russ from a breeder, he is nine in June and I cant believe it. Just makes you realise how precious every day is in their short life. He's going to get a few extra treats over the next day or so. He had to have two major operations a couple of years back - the bugger ate stones off the beach and nearly died - twice in two months. 2k of vets bills is payable, I know what you mean. I couldnt get over the void left in my life - the no getting up and straight up the garden, the no nudges of your leg when he wants to go out, the woofing at his dinner bowl, the space on the stairs when he's trying to race you up them . . . . . AND THAT WAS ONLY FOR FIVE DAYS! Thinking of you at this sad time. Jo

Jo Cheers Jo, Went back to work today and couldn't stop thinking about him but you have to try and get back into some sort of routine sooner or later. As you say it's all the little things every moment you are with them that I'm missing, never took him for granted but so true how quick their short lives go by. No regrets with Sam, he had the best of everything and we wouldn't have done things any different but it is so difficult knowing he ain't there anymore for those hugs and funny little ways they all have. They really do make your life complete, when everything else goes wrong, you've had a bad day etc. then seeing them and hugging them makes it all go away. As I said before we were privilaged to be able to have the chance to share just over 11 years with such a wonderfull, loyal and loving dog. It'll get easier I know. Enjoy every moment with Russ, but by the sounds of it I don't think I need to tell you that:) Paul
zap
Hi Paul - So sorry to hear this. We know how heart breaking it is when something you cherish is suddenly taken ill (We lost one dog a while ago, and had our other one critical with Pancreatitis Jan last year). You sound as though you are doing everything you possibly can, though.
