toyotasuprauk
Dont listen to what insurance company telephone staff tell you, only use that as a guide. You need to read the actual terms and conditions.

Ark
Look at it this way: in order to get road tax, you need insurance and MOT certificates. Missing any of the three documents normally renders the others invalid. So, if you had to got to the post office tomorrow to get road tax, you don't have an insurance certificate covering the Supra, therefore no new tax disc, therefore no right-to-drive. Editted to say: Don't believe ANYTHING you get told by the phone-monkeys at the insurance company's call-centre. They rarely know anything in my experience. I was once outright lied to by my last company (regarding the extra cost of mods) and consequently will never use them again.

Class One
well i will until i get paid from my new job, but i suppose if the company states what they say and surely im covered by there rules right? Nope sorry Jazz, I'm with Pistobroke on this one, the Supra must have its own insurance in its own right, and in order for you to drive third party on your policy it must also be owned by someone else. You'll find on private insurance policies it will quite clearly state in the small print that " The policy holder may also drive with the consent of the owner a private motor car not belonging to him/her and not hired to him/her under a Hire Purchase Agreement. Then it'll go on to say some stuff about licences etc. I guess the only affordable way for you to be insured to drive it is for it to be registered to your Dad say for example, he insurers it and you go down as a named driver. But it would be on the implicit understanding that your Dad would be the main user, otherwise you'd be gaining a pecuniary advantage and that would be an offence under the Theft Act. Guest mk47
hey jus thought id giv my pennies worth.. i used to work for hastings direct (peoples choice) insurance and its a standard procedure with almost all insurance companies i think .. that if your car is worth more than 5k you cant insure it as third party. also if u dont own the car it must be insured by someone else who is the policy holder & registerd owner and keeper of the car. however ur only driving under the minimum legal requirements of insurance. and if they clock on that your constantly driving the same car over a very long period of time they call it fronting and normally wont bother with u until u come to make a claim and then they kick u str8 in the balls! i used to do that when parents used 2 insure their young kids and i loved it! although at that time i was doin exacly the same thing with my insurance!
