Can i simply upgrade the processor or if i change that will I need to upgrade everything else ? I'm saving for a wedding so i have to watch every penny, otherwise i'd just pop down pc world and get a whole new one. I currently have the following spec on my pc 896MHz AMD Duron processor 640 MB of RAM (1x512 & 1x128) 133MHz GeForce2 64MB

Nothing new will fit in it and the old stuff that you could have upgraded to is not made anymore. Ebay would be your only option if you really wanted to stick with what you have. You will be lucky if your motherboard can take anything higher then a 1200mhz AMD processor. You can probably bump up the ram to 2 x 512 if you can find another 512mb 133mhz stick that will be compatible with your current ram and motherboard. I am assuming that the graphics card is PCI and not AGP. If that is the case then you are really limited as far as upgrading the graphics. Suprasteve
someone else said the same thing about the motherboard. looks like i've got to stick with what i've got for the time being. cheers anyways
jamesmark
i always find upgrading more hassle than its worth really. if you wanna save money dont go near pc world matey... nah pc world is the biggest rip off merchant available, i dealt with them on 3 occasions before i took an intrest on building them, you can get a super fast set up hand built, using your existing monitor for around £700 and that will be supre fast, the only down side of that unless you already have them is you wont have "learn spanish in 2 simple steps" lol all those useless cd's you get with a pc, and you will need a cracked copy of xp

Shovels
Dell do some fantastic deals on PC's, if you stick to the basic system and don't start adding too many optional extras they work out really cheap. Often they'll include a 17/19" TFT screen. TBH the cost of them is not far off what it costs to build one. If you're still keen to build one then http://www.eBuyer.co.uk or http://www.savastore.com do good prices on parts. You could upgrade just the motherboard, processor and RAM. Your video card should still fit, but it would be worth checking first. That way you could get: Motherboard: £25 - £30 Sempron 2400+ Processor: £55 512 Mb RAM: £30 The rest of your kit should run with this.Word of warning though - stick to better brands - If you buy really cheap components they'll probably just end up failing or giving you random errors. If you want more help (parts list, etc) PM me.

China Man
online shopping usually give you a cheap price compare to shops on the high street. I use http://www.overclockers.co.uk, very very good service and used to be expensive but the prices now is much more competitive. If you do want to buy from shop then go to computer market where you can pay net price but pay cash in person, I sometimes do that if I have urgent needs depends on what you want to use it for really, if it is word process and internet browsing then dell with tft is good option China
China Man
dammit , beat me to the OcUK bit. if buy a ready built unit I would go for dell, usually from 299+

Seb
I bought a Dell at Xmas, very happy with it, though the offers they have on at the moment fall short of what I got for the same money.
terawua
I build my own..... you get exacty what you want, and if you dont want that much then you could get something pretty good value. I do agree that what you have is probably all obsolete - better processor means new motherboard, theihc means more RAM, bigger HDD etc etc... slipper slope, kind of like owning a supra. Having said that I built my AMD Athlon 64 3000 in 8/2004 and it still goes just fine for me, and the pric hasnt dropped that much on stuff except the hard drive..... Wasnt there some Dell offer for a 17 inch TFT PC for 395 or something?
