Dead Battery BLUES ! !

Recommended Posts

Soop wouldn't start this morning ! ! !

Battery only enough to turn alarm off, but not

operate the remote locking ! !

Jumped from Dad's - OK

Stopped at Cafe (Sat' meeting place ritual !)

for ~40mins.... started OK

SO, at work, had an 005/4 delivered (the 'right'

Soop/Jap'size Battery) but had already bought

a bigger 097/4 weeks ago - in GARAGE ??

(005/4 = 380A/50Acapacity / 097/4 = 620A/60Acapacity)

Went to leave work.... click..click....

One of the lads turned round and came back,

jumped OK.

Had to cut ends of battery tray to accomodate

longer 097, and, 1/2" piece of wood under clamp

(Jap' batteries are shorter but taller ?????)

VROOOOOOOOOOM

....and the moral is... FOLLOW THE ADVICE

YOU GIVE TO ALL YOUR CUSTOMERS....

YOURSELF ! ! !

(ie. top it up BEFORE it needs it or it'll be too

late !)

ps. what probably killed it off was the run to

Lakeside Thursday night with all the Lights/

A'C'/Fan/.....and Ooopm-Dooompa on !

{it took the whole to/from trip to demist ALL

the windows properly ! - Soop sits unused

all week !)

FatS.

(pps. I have NO DOUBTS that the 005 is sufficient

if brand new ! ! ! - I just like a bit of an 'edge'

- plus the Soops' original sound system was a

teensy bit less demanding ! !:p )

YES mate, connectors are just 'NORMAL' round ones

ie. same as UK and same as Vauxhalls etc (and later Fords !)

Unless someone's already chopped/changed my terminals

over before I got it (look original ?) then Jap=UK=Vauxhall !?

UK is DEFINITELY just Vauxhall-size !!

size-wise, the 097 is ~1/2" less TALL so needs a block under the

clamp, but ~1" longer.

I looked all down the size/power list before I plumped for the 097 !

I reckon it's the "biggest-that-goes-in-with-least-adapting"

You'd prob' have to go up to one of the Hi-Fi ones next ??

(the VERY expensive, but, VERY powerful ones !?)

As I said, there's nothing wrong with the standard (005)

one ! I just like a bit extra (I had a Granada Heavy Duty on my

RS Escort ! !........ NEVER needed topping up..... EVER ! !)

Tell you what... (ALL OF YOU ! !)

In the morning, I'll go 'measure' the + and - terminal diam's..

(too dark/cold/wet/LAZY now:D )

The +ve is slightly bigger than the -ve.

It'll have to be ruff "from-to" as they're 'conical' obviously !

let's get this sorted once and for all...

(I'll only be able to say what the 'Vaux/UK/MINE' size is, but if

"yours" is the same........................... )

Fingers crossed they're all the same ? cos it's MUCH easier if

the terminals aren't a worry.

(GBA3005 sounds awfully similar to 005 don't you think :conf: )

mmmmmm......... they look like they're NOT conical ???

(or is it just the piccy)

sizeish-wise they're bound to be the same..I reckon !

I let you know how "BIG MINE IS" tomorrow Thorie-Pooh.

(shame... there's now a nice new 005/4 Lucas Calcium 4-Year

battery in me garage ! ! ! :innocent: )

bits cut-out of Tray.....

(it's possible that if I'd ground/sliced the 'feet' off both ends it would

just about squeeze in the tray, but knowing my luck I'd grind/slice

thru the battery casing ! ! !...... the feet ARE just extra plastic

castings on the ends/sides)

.........

[edit:- should have unbolted tray really - only 4 bolts - but raining

and no-one will see it anyhow....but, for that prof' touch.....!!]
