UK Front Brake Upgrade

SkyJawa

Recommended Posts

Anyone know how much I can expect to pay for UK front brakes from Toyota?

I'm assuming Calliper, disk, pads - anything else required?

Or should I just go with callipers and associated fittings and aftermarket disks/pads?

I'm assuming I need:

2x Calliper

2x Anti Rattle Spring

4x Calliper Mounting bolts

4x Gasket

4x Assorted bolts - can't quite work out what they are ;)

4x Anti Squeal Shim

4x Pin

4x Pad Spacer

2x Clip

8x Piston Seal

8x Piston

8x boot

8x Set Ring

2x Disk

2x Set front pads

Also braided hoses and 5.1 fluid to go with them I'll source seperately and poss the disks and pads too.

I've got this from here:

Is there anything else I need, any other tips and any idea how much that lot will cost?

Cheers :D

Is it worth ordering the UK disks/pads or just uprating straight away? Anyone recommend good kit disk wise as I'd go with the CW/Porterfield fast road pads..........

Gaz,

You're quite expensive for UK Fronts mate @ £800, Justin @ TIC would do them for £729.99, just looking to see if its any cheaper for me to get them from Toyota myself...... (but obviously thats UK standard disks and pads)

Also need braided hoses (assume stainless better than zinc) and rear Jap Spec Fast Road Pads - on your site 69 and 51.20(on the group buy ;)) respectively.

If ya could do the UK kit with fast road disks and fast road porterfields for £800 then I'd think diff ;) :p Obviously still need the rears and braided too.

What can ya do? :D

Cheers

Neil

Neil...

I WATCHED the bloke at work do mine ! ! :p

VERY straightforward swap, the only 'tough' bit being ripping the

Jap' dust (air?) sheilds from the rear of the Jap' discs... the spot

welds were a bit stronger than they looked ! !

ALL BOLTS the SAME.

Slight queery about which way to put the anti-squeely thingamies

on the pads (even for HIM, and he's done THOUSANDS of all sorts

of pads/discs !) but he sussed it.

The calipers are both obviously 'opposed' pistons (=better) but the

biggest 'VISIBLE' improvement (ie. SMILIE bit) was the front disc

'size'...

the rear discs aren't that much bigger ! - bit of a let-down really

(but s'pose that keeps the 'balance' thing right ??)

The most 'noticable' improvement immediately after fitting them

was being embarrased when pulling up at lights ! ! - I kept

stopping 10ft short of where I intended to ! !

(the 'light-pedal' force is MUCH better 'cos of the big discs ! !)

I always thought my Jap' brakes felt fine, they really only let me

down a bit on Drags etc when trying to stop from ~120 in only

~200ft ! ! - now, have to feather 'em a bit to avoid 'skiddies'.

DEFINITELY fit the UK fronts.... POSSIBLY fit UK rears (??)

(I would 'rufftimate' the fronts ~20-30% better ?

rears ~5-10% better ??? - could probably achieve same with

rear 'fast' pads ??)

FatS.

(ps. did fluid change to 5.1, as, had to bleed all 4 anyhow ! !

and got Toyota fluid 'cos wasn't lot dearer than 'cheap' stuff

- 1Litre did it AMPLE ! - I made him do it till we used the tin up

just for piece of mind - only needed ~1/2 Litre really ??)

That was the most significant thing for me too. On local roads you get used to braking points. For about the first hour I was pulling up short at junctions roundabout and lights. Felt a right pratt.

To get the shields off, I made a cut with snips to make a gap big enough to get a cold chisel above each weld and hit with 2lb hammer, one blow on each weld was ample, no problem getting them off.

I did a complete fluid change to Motul and fitted SS braded lines.

A great upgrade, there are few things you come up against that will out brake you, so keep an eye on your mirror.

Cheers chap :D

On top I'll also be needing porterfield rear fast road pads for the JSpec callipers, I was gonna SS hose all round anyway, and some 5.1.......

Poor credit card gonna get mullered just before Xmas
