Reasons for NOT doing diy

Thanks for the words guys, going today for plastic surgery. Hopefully they might just decide to leave it to heal itself, but there has been soft tissue loss. I have never had stitches, so I am quite nervous about that (the unknown) apparently they inject you first to numb you then get on with the work, but I am a heal natural person!

Keep you informed.....

Yeah they numb you, I had my index finger caught in a fixed router a couple of years ago, didn't hurt at the time, but I pretty much ripped through the top section of my finger and I was left with a step in my finger. Luckily the nail has grown back, but it still looks a little deformed. The guys I was working with at the time had fun playing find the finger bits at the shop I was working at. As said, fingers and 20,000 rpm don't mix very well......

Eeeeek! My worse nightmare, with the router fixed in a table I feel slightly happier but when it's locked down/plunged and you come to the end of a cut then that split second with the cutter exposed shits the life out of me :(

I've got a biscuit jointing cutter that has to be exposed and this baby could be lethal if it all went wrong.

I did my left index finger wiv a electric compound mitre saw. And the same thing as me, just missed the tendons and the bone so if you have missed those then you are half way there chum ... good luck

Have been a chippie for 23 years and thats the first time I have ever done that and hopefully it will be the last .....

Well the cocktail of drugs worked a treat, managed to sleep though till a few minutes ago. Still hurts like hell, but I thnk I was very lucky. I always have a very health respect for power tools, my compound saw is very powerful, I bought it for cutting all but the very biggest timbers in house construction. My hand was well away from the blade, but obviously not far enough, when the timber broke free of the clamp, it hit my had so hard I could not stop it going towards the blade. Luckly the kick knocked my other hand off the trigger, so I got hit at a much reduced speed as the brake began to apply.

Dazsir, I hope all goes well. My son had a similar thing happen with a power drill, quite a bit off tissue loss, looked a bloody mess to be honest. Nine months on he is fine has 95% feeling back and 95% flexibility. He was really worried that he would not be able to play guitar again, but it is all Ok now. His employer was deemed negligent so we are waiting for the leagal guys to sort out compensation.

Good luck.

Are we ALL doing DIY this weekend? I mean, I know it's virtually the law for the Easter weekend (that, or sitting in traffic)...

Thankfully I'm just sanding, filling and painting the walls...suppose I could've fallen off the stepladder...

Been to have the dressings taken off, hurts more now than it did before, Doctor has told me not to put anything over the wounds, but I feel so vulnerable!

Counted the stitches in 3 fingers - 30! Is that a lot?

I can only just touch mt thumb with the three fingers, no more, apparently this will be like this for a number of weeks. No physio as the waiting list is 6 weeks!

Going to wear a special glove to keep the wound clean and try and use my finger.

Will post a piccie later of the wounds.....

just wack a plaster on it its only a flesh wound, i did , i thought how the hell am i going to stich that , the blood will dry and act a bit like glue sealing the cut just avoid getting it wet if it tears try and stick the skin back down loads of pressure to stop excessive bleeding though
