Prof. Monkey
Cutting some wood with a circular mitre saw today. Managed to get my left hand cut by the blade (not sure how!) Lacerated my three middle fingers, not cut the tendon, but nearly down to the bone. Nasty cuts that mean I have to have plastic surgery tommorow, as there was no way of stitching up the wounds. Worst thing is I have to have my hand up by my shoulder, can not drive or do anything...... I am worried about the job they have to do tommorow.... Paul
Hope it all works out well for you mate. I've done loads of work with these sort of tools and routers, you've really got to respect them and what injury they could cause. Worse than saws imo is the Router, 20 odd thousand revs with an un-guarded cutter, what sort of damage could one of these do? Problem is that a few years back they were £200 plus, so it kept it for the more serious diy'er or professional but now you can pick these sorts of tool up for £40 with no experience of using them. Having said that I'm still shit scared of my power tools which is healthy in a way but we can all be in your position, so easily done. Terminator
Sincere sympathies mate, just got back from casualty, after a clamped piece of 5inch timber with a hiden knot kicked on my mitre saw and took my thumb with it. The doc managed to put it back together, but thinks I have a 50-50 chance of regaining feeling in the top two cms of my thumb. Should know in three to four months. Six hours later it hurts like fuck, despite mega pain killers, half a bottle of scotch and some prescription valium. I did everything by the book, clamps, hands out the way, but the timber kicked violently, as I released the triger my hand was thrown into the blade by the recoiling timber. It felt like I had been hit but a lump hammer, before I looked I hooked my fingers round my thumb. Took me about ten seconds to pluck up the courage to slowly uncurl my fingers one but one to see how much was left. Really looking forward to gettting the saw going in the morning. Rob
Jesus Christ, you guys. They say easter bank holiday is the worst time for DIY accidents. Kickback on a table saw, now that's a lot of fun.
Prof. Monkey
Thanks for the words guys, going today for plastic surgery. Hopefully they might just decide to leave it to heal itself, but there has been soft tissue loss. I have never had stitches, so I am quite nervous about that (the unknown) apparently they inject you first to numb you then get on with the work, but I am a heal natural person! Keep you informed..... Terminator, sorry to hear about your accident! I was lucky that I did not cut a tendon...
