365 bhp

It isnt decatted. Did I say it was? I'd better change that then. But I know what you are saying I expected it to be running higher boost with the exhaust fitted not having any boxes at all. I did a rather pathetic attempt at a 1/4 mile in the wet just now. 16.5 seconds slipping around and fluffed a gear change as well with a terminal of 91.4 mph

So a 1/4 mile figure from a g-tech meter would be a good telltale?

There are several version of the G-Tech, I don't know if they are all as good.

I've got the Race-Technology one, you can download stuff and plot them into Excel, and approximate bhp at the wheels with surprising accuracy and repeatability.

Absolutely Bizarre, I find it hard to believe that even if the Rolling Road Boys have inflated the results by 25% that this car is that slow. Must be a bloody nightmare Dangerous Brain, my brain is hurting trying to take it all in !

Lets hope you sort this for Matt, BTW I like your honesty mate !

Oh it aint slow. It was that bad out there that 200 yards further down that dual carriageway was a brand new MX5 that had bounced off the central reservation did every panel on it and span across the road and did a bit more. Had only just happened as well.

Gruggs has been in it and today (many thanks to GAV) he was in it and they will both tell you how quick it is. I find that in these situations honesty is the only policy. To be fair its damn hard to reproduce the fault. You really do have to absolutely cane it. It has to be at full throttle and it has to be building the power from below 3000 RPM and you have to keep your foot buried into the carpet let it off even a knacker and it won't do it.

Lets just put the problem completely on the table

All aristo's from what I have found out have speed delimiting issues. The MK2's cannot be delimited from the 112mph without changing the ecu. The MK1 on a dyno will hit what can only be described as a secondary limiter when its above 112 mph in a set gear which I beleive is 3rd gear it gets to 5400 rpm and just bounces off a limiter. Change gear ie up to overdrive and problem gone until alot lot faster.

This car because its got a manual gearbox and because it has its original ECU and obviously it has had to be fooled a bit as it expects to get signals from the gearbox which it isnt getting. From what we can gather it is hitting this secondary limiter at 5400 rpm in all gears at speeds lower than the 112 mph. It is only hitting the limiter at WOT if you are building it up like from a standing start. If you drop back from wot by even a centimetre or so it will just head on through 5400 and onto its real limiter over 6500. It will only do this in second if it gets a brilliant start if not its onto third. It will only then do it in third if you keep your foot planted from second again if you lift off a nadge thats it, it wont do it. If it does hit that limiter you change up to 4th it will do it again if you keep it planted to the floor by this time though you are going a tad quick. I haven't had a long enough road or enough balls to keep going and see if it does it in fifth and sixth but my guess is maybe yes.

I am going to try a 6 speed manual supra ECU in the car as that isnt that expensive a fix. If that doesn't work then its time to consider a standalone. Now heres the crux. Is a problem thats very difficult to reproduce and with practice easy to get round by blipping off the throttle at 5000 rpm and straight back on it really worth spending over a grand on to fix with no other agenda than stopping the car from doing it? Bear in mind figure reliability aside the car is making good power at 5400 rpm. If you lose 65 of the 365 quoted from the dyno for pub figure upmanship you are still in good J-spec 2JZGTE territory and thats at 5400 rpm

I could justify the expenditure if the car was going to be taken to big twins, big single, or at a push hybrids. Simplest fix would be to do what we used to do on service landrovers and fix a stop bolt on the accelerator preventing full WOT :D

Me personally if it was my car and I was going to keep it I'd live with it and adapt my driving style. After all the rest of the package is stunning. The buyer gets his mug in a top jap mag, its got 4 doors and can more than adequately carry 4 clarkson sized adults and heres the thing there is nothing on the market at the price that will size match it, in manual, with low miles that can outperform it period. A BMW M5 in the same age bracket will just be the same power, its not as big inside, it has huge issues with its Vanos system and will have double if not more than double the mileage for the money. The only other car that gets close is the audi S8 but I havent found a manual one yet.

MMMM well at that price I can't afford to sell the car at £9k. I'm allready losing a grand an a half on it as is. I'm not losing £2k or more. Bloody thing is working me into a corner. If I have to spend money on it I'll have no choice but to feature it myself and sell it in the summer for the decent money I know it will fetch post feature. Heres hoping that a manual TT ECU works eh.

Hows it coming Bry?

Got a 6 speed ECU sorted if that works then billy bonus. If not I'm looking at shelling out £300 for a blitz ecu. I'm not gonna lie I'm gonna need to see a return on that especially as I am losing so bad letting it go at the price we agreed. So lets hope its a supe ecu fix as I can just about cope with that on top of the money I am losing as is. All is not lost and as you've gone so far to get this car I'll do my best to get it to you.

Thank god I'm not a car trader I'd be bust in a month :D
