FPR, needed at BPU levels? Which is best?

Ok, so my car is BPU, has been for a while now. Looking forward to installing the AEM wideband O2 from the group buy when they get sent out, just wondering what your thoughts are on intalling an FPR too.

For a while now I've been thinking of getting an FPR, fitting kit and pressure guage to ensure the fuel system is healthy.

Is it necessary for BPU? Is it a wise move generally? Thinking long term I might want to tune the car more so this would be a good thing to get installed, but should I just wait until I know what else I'm doing with it?

Guess when the o2 is installed I'll know more clearly if the fuel system is coping well or not (better late than never lol)... If the mixture reads a bit on the lean side I guess I'll need a fuel computer asap, or can it be dialled out with a little extra fuel pressure (if it's generally lean)?

anyway, thinking of the aeromotive one (from vortex perhaps, but the site seems to indicate no stock). Whats the best place to source one?

Is the aeromotive the best one for the £, is the one CW is offering better/worse than the aeromotive one?

There's no need unless you want to change fuel pressure from stock. The only reason for doing that is to increase it to provide some more fuel without having to change the injectors. You can for example make 440cc injectors flow as much fuel as 550s. You can't do that without some form of fuel computer to trim the fueling back, just as you would need if you put bigger injectors in. That's exactly the setup I had - I've now got some bigger injectors to go with my single and I'll be putting my fuel pressure back to stock again.

lol I know it sounds bad John, but I have no reason to think the fuel system isn't coping, the o2 is for safety and to be sure all is ok.

so, sounds like I should maybe leave it unless it turns out I def need it then? Which I should know soon as the o2 is fitted.

Maybe I'll wait until I add an ecu and then fit it at the same time before going to a RR for tweakage...

I'd wait until you have proof that your fuelling is wanting. Probably it doesn't need fiddling with fuel pressure.

In the meantime I'd run a bottle of STP Total System Cleaner (the pricey silver bottle). If your injectors are clogged you will see immediate difference.

ahhh good plan, you know I was in the shop just yesterday looking for some decent injector cleaner but only found some lesser known products (one had something floating in it that looked like dirt! lol), I didn't want to risk cheap stuff. I'll get hold of some of this Silver STP then and give them a clean :)

Mine is infinitely better than the Aeromotive one. TTE wouldn't use junk, it's very similar in quality to the (mega expensive) Bosch Motorsport FPR's, at a baragin price as I bought a job lot. Having said all that you will be fine with the stock one, I'd leave it alone...

ok cheers chris, that's good to know. I'm going to leave it for now, no point fitting it just for the sake of it, I'll wait and see what the o2 says and take it from there. If I'm widely out I'll be looking for an ecu and fpr to sort it, but hopefully it will be coping ok as is for the moment :)
