stock_supra
Hi all, Im a newbie to all this. Purchased my supra in Jan. Ive been a member with mkivsupraownersclub for 2 months and have just found this site. I cant believe how many UK supra clubs are on the net. Anyway back to business. My car failed its MOT on leaking shocks last week I have purchased 2 rear mr Toyota rear shock absorbers but am not confident in fitting them. From the post on the forums it should take between 1 – 2hours. (Toyota quote 2 hours Labour £160). If anyone would like to fit these in for me for £80 would be much appreciated. I am in the east midlands (leicstershire) You can contact me on: 07970 160611 or PM me.

stock_supra
sounds like a fair offer. yeah i would rather give the £80 to club members who know what they are doing then to any 3rd party independent garage.

Pete
It should take between 1 – 2hours. If nothing goes wrong, nothings seized and bolts/torx heads don't get rounded etc. I tried it myself and had this problem.
carl0s
If nothing goes wrong, nothings seized and bolts/torx heads don't get rounded etc. I tried it myself and had this problem. It's doable without removing the drop links though I think.. and they're the usual difficulty.

markssupra
If I was nearer to you mate I would give you a hand. Its not too much of a job to do. Possibly might be worth changing the shock dust boots while the springs and shocks are off, about £20 each I think from Toyota.

markssupra
As long as you have the right tools, its not too bad. Just allow yourself time to do the job properly and not be rushed. I take it you have seen the thread by IanC. Click here. I didnt fancy doing them either, but I thought what the heck, there only shocks. You do start to learn about the car by doing jobs yourself, and give yourself confidence to tackle more technical ones. Good luck.
Graham S
Honestly mate, do it yourself, they are surprisingly easy All you need is a nice big bar to brake the lower shocker bolt then unscrew the trim in the boot then undo the 3 (if i remember right) top bolts and get a lever to push the bottom suspension arm down and pull the whole leg out. Fair enough I do it every day and its like eating cake to me but my neighbour done his easy and he is an IT boy! Can PM a dumb ass guide if you need one mate.. I'd say it would take longer to jack the car up and remove the wheel than to remove the shock/spring assembly.
Graham S
Ah even easier, follw IanC's guide! Easy as!!
JustGav
Sad but true....... I've done 4 times on the supra now... and yes I'm the IT bod.... I did it on the floor with a trolley jack (Didn't need to jack it up too high because I'm short, got that in before anyone else did)... Yeah, Graham is right, it is 3 bolts on the top, and then some weight on the hub assembly and swing the spring and shock out... It really is that straight forward... unless of course it is a gearbox on mk3 golf with a pesky water pipe...

geoffvalenti
Shame you're so far away Follow Ian's guide and you won't go far wrong, just dont undo the spring compressors until you've got the spring fitted back properly on the shock and the central nut done up
