Also had a stint on a shaper. But once I came out of my time and stepped into the real world of Aerospace machining, I had to learn CNC programming. rik Posted October 18, 2006 Share Posted October 18, 2006 I've recently got back into MIG welding for an engineering company. We're building components for car transport trailers mostly. I'd like to know more about cnc and cad though, as i'd consider going back to college to train. I don't fancy being on the end of a mig torch forever. How do you get into that side of things? That is the problem these days, profit margins are small due to the likes eastern europe and india getting there act together and producing half decent components for basically peanuts... there is very little time to train new people, youngters dont get a very good apprenticeship now due to rush, rush, rush. Tell me about it. Me and my Wife started our own Precision Engineering Company last june and its hard going!!! Lots of compation from Abroad. Finding good CNC engineers is very hard! They only take on 5-10 out of the yearly intake, but it's still something. In fact we have a shortage of machinists at the moment. They have been externally recruiting.
