Prof. Monkey
Oh for goodness sake, not only have I kerbed 2 wheels, there is a chunk out of my tyre approx 1.5mm deep at its deepest and is about the size of a mans little finger up to the first joint from the nail end. Does this mean I have to buy a new tyre or can I just glue it back to make it look neat?

Rob Dublin
Not neccessarily RIP.... get it checked by a tyre monkey. I had a similar gouge, actually prob bigger. So ordered a new tyre, went to get it fitted and the guys reckoned it was only cosmetic damage, and that it's a common misconception that all wall damage is terminal. As long as the damage doesn not lead to a bulge in the tyre wall it should be fine. HOWEVER, get someone who knows what he's talking about to look at it and judge, you don't want it going pop on the move.

An MOT is all about safety, it wouldn't fail on this unless it was down to the braiding underneath. If all that is exposed is more black rubber then it wil be okay. merckx
A pic would help, but from the description you gave it sounds like nothing at all. If the curbing hadn't removed a sliver of rubber then you and others wouldn't even consider replacing it. The little bit of rubber won't be missed if the braiding underneath isn't exposed. Mike M
Alot of tyres nowadays have rim protectors so guess a chunk out of that wouldn't do any harm unless your unlucky and kerb the wheel in th exact same spot again. As long as the side wall doesn't look like a walnut is trying to escape.
Prof. Monkey
No beading showing and yes it was a chuck out of the rim protector. Hacked off with it all really! 2 kerbed wheels, all because some bloke in a mondeo decided to park right up to my bonnet.
Mike M
Well i know how you feel, i turned into a juction and was forced to take it tight cos of a 4x4 and the rear went down a pothole and my week old Toyo had a nice chunk out the protector. Have to admit i super glued it.
