dannyspeed
Ive got a really loud squeaking sound coming from my rear passanger side wheel when driving, it seems to quieten down slightly when i keep at a steady speed or speed up but when i lay off the accelarator it gets really loud. Ive also got a squeak from the drivers side rear wheel but only when i go round a roundabout or right turn. I wrote this in a past thread but what ive realised since is that my rear uk brakes have no Anti-squeal shims on the pads. I checked my manual cd out and noticed there should be 2 anti-squeal shims for each pad. Can anyone tell me do these make a big differance and will this cure my problem? People have been telling me it might be the bearings but i only got these changed less than 6 months back, i did notice a slight squeak when i got the car back and took it back twice to the garage but sods law it didnt squeak when the machanic was in the car. garethr
Also, have you checked that the dust shields are not touching the discs?
Ian C
I junked my anti-squeal shims years ago on the advice of CW. The improvement to brake pedal feel was beyond anything I expected even from the placebo effect. Also, oddly, I have had no squeals at all since, apart from backing the car out after it got wet and the discs are rusty. CW brake pads though... Maybe that's the difference. -Ian
Chris Wilson
I have anti squeal backing pads in stock, 8 quid a set for UK rears, 10 quid for UK fronts. I have used J-Spec OE anti squeal shims in stock at a fiver an axle set, all plus 1.50 P&P.
Stonkin
My brakes squeak when pressing the pedal very slightly, like when pulling up to junctions. Its very annoying. I've got CW j-spec pads (which are great) i'm unsure what has been fitted with regard to shims, was gona get phoenix to check when its next having a service

dannyspeed
My rear brakes squeals only after start up when i reverse out the driveway once there warm there perfect. I dont think the shims will fix my problem then as the noise is getting worse and is always there when im driving. Im starting to think the garage has done a bad job on my bearings. On the last thread i was told to check the handbrake levers, springs ect in the rear hub which im going to check out this weekend.
