flat4matt
Hi I'm new my names Matt, I'm into fast old Beetles but am looking at a Supra for my daily drive I'm 24 and can't believe how cheap the quotes have been for a stock UK TT, cheapest I've had is £897 which seems REALLY good given my current daily car (Group 2 insurance) is costing me £700! I've seen a few supras at garages and to be honest a lot of them have been a little rough. Ideally I'd be looking at something with a few modifications, styling mainly (wheels, suspension, possibly Veilside kit) which I havent looked for a quote on yet. My budget is around £9k including insurance... I've had a read of the Supra Guides etc I have a pretty good automotive knowledge but am a little nervous about buying a car like this as I'm fully aware a bad one can cost a fortune to put right. I'd be looking to buy in the next month or so as soon as i sell my current car. Anyway just thought I'd say hi Here's one of my Beetles for anyone who's interested... Pig
Welcome, nice beetle and good luck finding a manual uk spec. Dont expect on to appear over night!
flat4matt
To be honest the UK thing doesnt matter as much anymore, i just got a quote from Sky Insurance for an import, there's virtually no difference in cost... I do fancy a manual, but then i haven't driven an auto supra yet...

His has the same spec but also has a turbo. He is fully street legal, runs high nines and can on occasion be seen pottering around Chorlton... for the non believers .... http://homepage.ntlworld.com/vwspeedshop/9.95.avi right click and save as

flat4matt
Add that to a close ratio box in a pretty light car with the engine over the rear wheels (LOADS OF TRACTION) and hey you have a quick car
Mike
that is nuts...!! front wheels off the road and everything...!! wicked! not seen a bug move like that before... oh, sorry, by the way... nice motor, good luck with the search.. - also try an auto, they're not bad! geoffvalenti
Now wouldn't it be great to pull up at the lights in one of those! I love sleepers, they're so much fun:D
geoffvalenti
also try an auto, they're not bad! Yeah, but its going to feel slow, compared to the Beetle
flat4matt
Believe me most things feel slow compared to that, mainly because its so loud and harsh (solid mounted engine and box) It's not exactly a daily car though... Hence i want something quick but not as raw, Supra fits the bill perfectly
flat4matt
Also my current daily car is a 1.2 Seat Ibiza... So I have both ends of the spectrum I also have a track only Bug (in a million pieces) but that ran an 11.09 with its previous owner... It has a big blue bottle strapped in the back though ANYWAY lets talk Supra
Ian W
not seen a bug move like that before... you never watched Herbie, mate?

That is quite a good budget for a uk auto soop now, try both though before you decide as the auto really is a good box I am also 24 and i pay 800 for my insurance through sky all mods declared BPU+ also 10k agreed value full no claims though but with 3 points (sp30) Good luck soop hunting when u get catch one you wont look back. flat4matt
I bet the Auto is nice, 3 long gears, perfect smooth turbo fun! But I'm a sucker for sticking it through the gears... I dunno just need to drive an auto i guess.

Hence i want something quick but not as raw, Supra fits the bill perfectly I know the feeling, but the other way around I had the Supra, then bought the Griff as well, for a bit of raw power. Supras are great cars, quick, reliable, comfortable, awesome looking. I'm still amazed when I return to mine, if I've left it parked in the road, what a great looking car it is. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing around in the same price range to touch them. As others have said, you could wait a long time for a UK 6 speed to surface, its certainly worth try the auto 'box, especially knowing you've got the Beetle for your manual thrash moments Good luck with your search, there's a few useful articles about buying in the FAQ section, if you haven't read it yet. I'm sure you'll have great fun when you get a Supra, but the thrill of spanking a Porsche or BMW from the lights in that Beetle must be priceless
flat4matt
I'm sure you'll have great fun when you get a Supra, but the thrill of spanking a Porsche or BMW from the lights in that Beetle must be priceless Well it's off the road for now, had a few fuelling problems so i tucked it up in the garage... Once i get a Supra sorted, next thing on my list is a turbo for the bug. Something like this... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4656598677422091483&q=beetle
flat4matt
But yes you're right, although i haven't seen much action against porsches... BMW's, Impreza's & Evo's have all fallen victim to the innocent little blue bug.
Guest Flat4_ire
Yeah dont get me wrong, i just havent driven an auto supra yet u dont want an auto, manual is better fun, and if i was going from a 13 second car id be looking at single turbo supras, i wudnt be buying a standardish twin
CJ
I have owned both the manual and the auto and would find it hard to choose between the two as to which was my favourite. My advice (as others have said) would be to try both and then decide.
