andrew7
Depends what plane you're going in...a 747 pilot is _probably_ going to be only a little more useful than a chocolate teapot in a Cesna. You are joking, right?............
andrew7
Surely both are qualified pilots, but on different aircraft ? Wish I'd never mentioned it now. I was referring to the level and standard of training....
Ark
You are joking, right?............ Oddly enough, no I'm not. The 747 pilot is trained to operate a plane fitted with a million computers (give or take one or two), weighing hundreds of tonnes fully loaded, and all the mod-cons, blah blah blah. About the only similarities with a Cesna are the fact that it flies, and the basic piloting needs of flight-planning and radio contact.
CardiffSupra
I dont think any test will change the amount of deaths, Its all down the driver. Like nick said its all down to experience at the end of the day. Some people havnt got the concentration levels needed to drive, and some people chose to do 180mph on a public road! Put a Cessna pilot in a 747 and a 747 pilot in a Cessna and then have to make a choice of which one you fly with... I'd be jumping in the Cessna as fast as my legs could carry me...... Ark
Whatever. I'll just stay at home thanks. What have planes got to do with driving tests anyway?
Supragal
Of course it is fair, you are driving what is potentially a lethal weapon... And if you had a choice, who would you prefer to fly with on safety grounds?.. A Cessna trained pilot or a trained British Airways 747 pilot?......no brainer... Someones dad might teach them just as well as a driving instructor

andrew7
Whatever. I'll just stay at home thanks. What have planes got to do with driving tests anyway? It was meant to be an example of the effectiveness of proper training... that's all. You missed it I'm afraid..
andrew7
Someones dad might teach them just as well as a driving instructor Unlikely..... I had to correct quite e few when I was a driving instructor in another life.... Usually they just pick up their dad's bad habits as well.............
