SupraJames
Ok last week my car went in to have both the turbo side and inlet side stripped to replace missing bolts and bolts not done up fully from a previous job, was all put back together with new gaskets, seals, etc etc, now when it went it was running 375 bhp at the hub @ 1.2 Bar boost. All put back together and was test run, first turbo comes in and as starts boosting it seems to be leaking and the boost drops, you can hear it leaking as well, and the second turbo does not even come in. Was stripped again today and both actuators checked and all ok. Any ideas what and where could be leaking to cause this prob, on the dyno it only made 5 psi boost..! please help. thanks
Guest gzaerojon
its a long shot but were all gaskets definatly removed before new ones fitted? maybe one could be doubled up with an old gasket. And the normal check all pipes ect especially jubilee clips as i had a few knackerd ones when i removed mine. also i have a black rubber hose split on the turbo hard pipes, it split between one of the ridges, looked like it had gone brittle im no expert of course but its worth a try
JohnA
They probably connected some vacuum hoses the wrong way round, perhaps around the various VSVs.
SupraJames
Jon, all gaskets were checked and any old brittle or split hoses were replaced, John A, I was thinking the same thing as it was fine before.
pistonbroke
I'm not so up on turbo engines yet, but I remember reading a post on here when I first got my car, about a guy that was getting low boost the second turbo was doing nothing, it sounds similar to your faults described, his was simply a leak from the BOV. Sorry if this is a bit noobish, I just thought I'd try and help.
SupraJames
Thanks I will get them to check. So far they have check all the mechanical side of things, complete vacuum system check, actuators etc etc and so no joy, they are now starting a complete electrical check..! Just cant understand whats up with it as it was fine..!!
SupraJames
Ok update, BOV is fine, all VSV's are apparently fine also, so back to square one..! Could my boost controller being causing this..? it was all set up and working fine. Am going to collect the car on Friday, fixed or not fixed. Dont suppose there is any Supra Gurus around Surrey that could help me, as I cant afford to pay some one else to sort it out again..! JohnA
Suppose you stick it in 2nd gear at 2Krpm and nail the throttle. Can you describe the way boost builds up as the revs increase?
SupraJames
first turbo comes in straight away builds boost up to around 5 psi then just leaks out, can be heard leaking as well, engine note does not change as before when the second turbo comes in, and boost does not increase, so second turbo not even coming in. JohnA
You can hear it leaking you say. So something might be loose, cracked or misplaced. For example, some cracks look OK to the eye, and only open up under pressure. My bet is something was not put back together properly. Mine is also UKSpec, so you are welcome to put them side by side and check for discrepancies, if it helps. M25J4, if it's any good.
SupraJames
Cheers John, the car is in Kent at the mo as it goes..! My bet is something has been put back wrong to, but have told them to put the car back together and will pick it up tomorrow. Then take it else where. JohnA
Send me a PM if you want to arrange to drop by. It's best to have *them* fix it though, because they know best what they've disturbed and what they haven't.
