Handbrake sticking help !

I know this is probably a simple fix for most of you but i've no garage or driveway.Sometimes my handbrake sticks on for a few miles then frees itself.I know it's the handbrake cos when i have the problem the handle lifts up quite alot before warning light comes on and when it's ok i only have to lift it a bit.Is this a job i could do on the road without jacks or a garage and what does anyone suggest to rectify the problem.

Warning light should come on the instant you raise the handbrake. Can you feel it dragging? If not it could be just the sensor switch under the lever sticking.

To adjust the handbrake you will need to jack the rear of the car up and sit it on stands, there's a little adjuster near the centre of each rear disc.

Check that its actually sticking first. Link below to adjustment thread

Yes, you need to oil the drum pads........:innocent:

Very irresponsible saying that!

Some won't know any better and will do it!:)

Don't lubricate near the pads/shoes unless you know what you're doing.

If you want it done properly then you should be checking the condition of the handbrake shoes first.

You'll obviously need to remove a wheel.

Best to get someone to show you what to do or take it somewhere.
