UK TT - Which Brake Disks?

I've always followed the idea that if something needs replacing on my car I like to upgrade it at the same time - before I sell the car I was thinking of putting some new front disks on and wondered what the alternatives to the OEM items are without spending too much more money?

I've trawled the archives and Project-Mu items seem to be one option but I really need a UK supplier who takes Switch or someone overseas that takes PayPal as I have no Visa card. (Envy?) What are the PowerSlot ones like?

I'm more concerned about performance that bling bling looks when it comes to brakes so if you tell the that OEM plus decent pads is good enough for the odd trackday then that'll do me but I thought I'd check the options first.

Fensport quote £148.00 plus VAT and delivery for OEM items (Blueprint maybe?) and £247.00 plus VAT etc for some Black Diamond 12 groove efforts - is there anything else in between these prices I should consider?

(I'll probably add braided hoses, Porterfields and definately renew the DOT 5.1 at the same time)

AFAIK, the UK spec discs are plenty good enough. If you put some decent pads on and use Motul RBF6000 fluid they will be fine for the odd track day.

I've got some braided brake lines on my J-spec brakes, and while they won't make you stop quicker they do tighten up the pedal nicely.

I would consider the Chris Wilson Fast Road pads over Porterfields. His pads made a world of difference to my piddly brakes and don't munch discs like Porterfields...

I suspected as much, I'm v.impressed with the standard brakes, pads and hoses as it is to be honest (even on track) so I don't really feel the need to upgrade too much - I just have that policy of upgrading things where I can but that was adopted on inferior cars where things weren't quite so well engineered to begin with :D

i think it all comes down to what you weanna do with the car ie is it a daily driver, an odd track-day car etc etc

i have a j-spec but with the UK brake upgrade (1st thing i did!) n it did a world of difference. it is also my daily driver and with some of the idiots that drive in london, i wanted to make sure i would stop repeatedly and quickly.

i have decided to do several track days next year so am actually going to get the proj Mu slotted discs with endless pads in the spring.

if you don't intend on any track use, then i would think that CW's pads or maybe ferodos with the UK discs should be fine. :)

The bulk of my driving is just regular road stuff, occassional trackdays and 1/4 mile events - to date I've never found the brakes lacking (unlike with the MR2) so I suspect I'll probably go for standard disks (might have a v.cheap source for these - watch this space) and some mildly trick pads to beef things up a little.

The Powerslots are quality bits of kit, but if you really aren't going to get the benefit out of them then maybe reconsider - as they are twice as much as the OE discs.

But if that doesn't deter you in the slightest, we take Switch or Paypal! :)

Gaz.

Finally unpacked some of the boxes since I moved house a few weeks ago and realised I do have a VISA card so I'm free to wander now but I suspect I won't be Gaz :)

I'm currently looking into some cheap OEM disks and might add a set of Porterfields and braided hoses.... I'll be in touch.

stick with the standard discs. I've done Silverstone GP and Goodwood and they stop OK.

don't munch discs like Porterfields
This is a myth. I've run R4 pads for well over a year (15000 miles) and the discs show no wear - unlike the pads which are finished. The R4 pads do turn your rims black though!

On the subject of pads has anyone found a good set that don't create too much dust? I had the EBCs on my MR2 and they were OK in that respect, just didn't stop the car too well - ideally I'd like no dust and great braking, too much to ask?

Ive got CW's fast roads and they are 'impressive' not too much dust and no squeal :D
