Pete
Someone did it to mine, drilled holes in the headlamps and left the crap inside for me to seperate the lens and recon. Crap idea IMHO.
mr lover
didn't drill anything, swapped the wiring around and put indicator in to sidelight. I just need to sort out sidelights but not to worried only when mot is due
Pete
didn't drill anything, swapped the wiring around and put indicator in to sidelight. I just need to sort out sidelights but not to worried only when mot is due Well some idiot drilled mine and poked a small bulb through the hole as a side light. (this is on a facelift BTW) Feckin' retarded if you ask me.
Tricky-Ricky
So whats retarded about relocating the indicators to the headlight, like most modern designs?
Pete
So whats retarded about relocating the indicators to the headlight, like most modern designs? I meant drilling holes into facelift lights and poking small light bulbs through is a bit stupid. Sorry..not too clear on account of lots of JD. merckx
I've thought about it, but like on Pete's car (facelift) you need to do something with the side lights aswell. Hope you've got a logon for Supraforums. I found these a while back. Tutorial from Supraforums more and yet more
Tricky-Ricky
So the options are, convert the fogs to take a 21w amber indicator bulb, as front fogs are not an MOT requirement, or convert the fogs to side lights and use the sidelights as indicators, but i don't think the 5w bulbs will be bright enough. RobSheffield
one further option may be to leave it as it is?! i like the dinky sidelights and indicators
Tricky-Ricky
I like the clean look, and besides i want to get rid of those dam great MR2 indicators.
NeoFuture
idea ! how about using a custom blue/amber led cluster as side light then you can have both sides and indicators in one unit
Tricky-Ricky
Just had a look at the foglight and i don't think a 21w indicator bulb will fit, are there any high power amber bulbs that are smaller?
Pete
How about those LED strips I've seen about? They're very thin and wouldn't be to noticable when off. Like these but smaller - http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=
Tricky-Ricky
Been looking at ultaleds and i have a cunning plan, need to wait for Robert to get back to me but as the fogs take H3 bulbs i am thinking of gutting the holder and replace the bulb with an amber led 7440 if its bright enough. SAGP
I've been wanting to do the same thing, I'm thinking along the lines of getting bulb paint, painting the fog bulbs amber then wiring the indicator leads onto them, it should be easy enough without too much modification. Ive tested one of the fog bulbs on the indicator circuit (using a couple of wire grips and a steady hand) it flashes and its bright! Only problem is that the bulbs are Halogen...... hmmmmm Halogen and paint..... watch this space...... (I tend not to use the indictor much anyway and when I do they will only be on 50% of the flash, I'll have to avoid big roundabouts)
SAGP
I took the plunge this weekend and changed the fogs into indicators, fairly painless only needed to cut two wires and join a couple and splash a bit of bulb paint on, then hey presto no more naff indicators in the bodywork, they now take pride of place were god intended them to be. They are a perfect amber and certainly bright enough, I put the hazards on for a while to test the painted halogens and no problem, even if it were it would also be simple enough to revert back, but no need, I’ve been using them quite a bit since converting them and all is sweet. Wez
I converted mine a couple of weeks ago to use the small little dome like fitting but as the 501 bulbs are only 5W the indicators flash faster than normal. If I add a 10ohm resistor this will fix the flashing issue, apparently, but not got round to it yet. I bought orange 501 bulbs from halfrauds
chilli
I like the clean look, and besides i want to get rid of those dam great MR2 indicators. supra indicators are the same as mr2 indicators? pre or face lift supra, same as which mr2 model? Tricky-Ricky
I have an aftermarket front bumper that has MR2 indicators, i still haven't heard back from Ultraleds about a suitable bulb, so if i don't hear back from them soon, i might try SAGP method, but i'm not sure how long the halogens are going to last subject to constant flashing.
