Questions about Auto to 6Speed conversion.

Are the pedals and clutch master cylinder from an NA the same as the ones on the TT models?

Seeing as the the engine and gearbox is out of my Tiptronic VVTi TT at the moment it occurred to me that this would be a good time to convert it to manual transmission.

I know where I can get a VVTi manual ECU.

I think I know where I can get a 6speed gearbox.

The car already has a LSD and I'm OK about it being a bit lower ratio than the regular manual diff, seeing as Supras are way overgeared anyway.

So, apart from a bit of messing about with the propshaft it should be a fairly easy swap.... right? Or am I forgetting something?

Any thoughts? What about the clutch master cylinder and pedals? Will the ones from a NA be alright? It'll just make it easier to find some if NA ones are the same.

Thanks.

hi jake, i did a bit of asking around and ive bought pedals and master cylinder/reservoir from a n/a to fit to mine. have you read the article on mkiv.com about the conversion? it tells you just about everything you need to know and what parts are needed. i'll be doing mine next weekend.

Using the auto diff is supposed to put your speedo out by up to 20mph and really not a nice drive but if you do decide to keep it you will need the front half of the prop shaft as the 6 speed box is shorter than the auto.

also allow money for clutch/pressure plate, dash panel, cutting up of the transmission tunnel, clutch lines, flywheel, flywheel bolts(£10 each:( ),

it really starts to add up when you add all the little bits on

any questions on this then feel free to pm me as ive done a fair bit of research recently

I've done a complete parts list for someone on here before. I'll see if I can hook it out again.

im quite sure he is aware of the parts list as he linked me to one on supraforums the other day but is always nice to see another:D just in case ive forgotten something

Be careful that the list on Supraforums isn't LHD though. They're very much different parts!

yeh i know. i just used it to confirm i had everything, not for part numbers. although im hoping my LHD flywheel bolts are OK(j/k):)

There is another thread around here somewhere that has revs / speed listed for manual box auto diff, IIRC it doesnt seem to be a good idea, over 4k @ 70mph in 6th.

I also remember reading about someone(Arnout maybe) blowing auto diff's on a manual box.

Nope, I read 3680rpm at 70mph in 5th.

Also I've read somewhere that the diff issue was down to something else as well. I'll try to find it out....

edited to add:- Actually 70mph in 6th equates to 2914rpm.
