Do I need a Walbro

Kevin W

Recommended Posts

I have a J-Spec. with the usual BPU - HKS filter, wider exhauast, etc.. I have seen quite a few threads about upgrading the fuel pump to a Walbro, but how do I know if I need it? Presumably the engine would run lean on high revs, but are there any signs to suggest I need a new pump?

Has anybody experienced an improvement in their car after fitting a Walbro? I don't really want to go to the trouble of fitting a new pump unless it would make a difference....

Thanks!

I think you change it as a precaution, rather than waiting and hoping for the best, problem is signs = potential damage, you don;t want to take that risk for the sake of £100 or so... It's not hard to fit, it's not very expensive, for a BPU I'd say it's a wise safety measure, rebuilding the engine is not cheap!

You could fit a wideband O2 and this would warn you of low fueling, but the walbro mod is cheaper and addresses a possible cause of it, rather than just alerting you to it, best of all, fit both :)
