Getrag
Im making up some clips and the windows movie maker isnt giving me any love. Where can I get some......try-before-I-buy software?
Jake
Windows Movie Maker (for XP is it?) is pretty damn good actually if you want to make WMV video. ....but IME it barfs if you have too many conflicting or dodgy codecs installed. I got WMM working by simply uninstalling all unnecessary codecs.
Getrag
Ah right, when I try to put video into it, it just goes to a really crap resolution. On the other hand, I have all the codecs I want to make all the current mpegs etc work well.
Jake
Crap res? But you choose the res you want in the "Save Movie File" menu. Example, if on the "Movie Setting" page (3rd page of 'Save Movie File' I think) you should then click on 'Show more choices' rather than leaving on the default 'Best quality for my PC'. Then it lets you choose whatever res you like from the 20 or so options. You can pick up to 720x576 which I think is DVD quality. Obviously if the source video is crap resolution then the output file will be too. Garbage in, Garbage out .... as they say
Getrag
Yeah, i know what your saying. The source is good and I have tried loads of the other settings but it just keeps playing this pixelated nonsence. Ill have more of a play around, thanks. Jake
If there's some other video editing software you want just tell me what it is. I can probably get it for you. Are you just converting something or editing it as well?

WTF is that about? Anyway do you want me to get Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 for you? I can get it for tomorrow if you like.

Ark
I use TmpgEnc for making MPG and MPEG2 files for DVD, VCD and SVCD. Free software if you can live without MPEG2. Visit http://www.videohelp.com for some really great write-ups on format converting, tools, codecs, etc.

Pro 2 is definately the software to be using. I used Windows Movie Maker and got some really good results - eventually! Premier Pro just takes away the amatuer look! I also have a copy of the media (iso) if required... Jamie
