Sue was stopped last month by a copper who simply said it was very loud and asked her if it was "legal" to which she replied "yes" (as you would) ! He said it "sounded very beefy" and she said "well it's a beefy car" at which he let her go on - now she waves at him every time he goes by. IT'S NOT FAIR - he would have booked me ! I'm sure I got a certificate to say that the RSR was 98Dbl when we bought it which I assume that meant with the baffle in (which we never do). When we go touring in Scotland in the summer I'm going to take both the baffle (it just fell out Sir McOfficer) and the certificate (bullshit effect). They do sound good though don't they...... BUT, there are NO noise limits on the MOT (only "holes in exhaust" etc). Cops can do the "Excessive Noise" bit...can't they ?? BIKES however have had a 'sort-of' limit since ~'81 (think) because ALL bikes since then have had to have a BS (or EN) stamped silencer for ON road. (just about EVERY loud/nice exhaust on EVERY bike you see is ILLEGAL, strictly speakin'....MINE included:( ) I would assume, because i bought my NUR spec R for use ON road, and it has no warning labels/stamps on it (bike ones DO!) pistonbroke Posted April 6, 2006 Share Posted April 6, 2006 Well, I've never heard of anyone getting done for loud exhausts, sure there are legal limits, but the cops do not carry the testing equipment to prove or dissprove the noise levels, there are also so many other mitigating factors, background noise, large buildings will reverbirate noise and increase level, (tunnel effect). You'd have to be really unlucky to get a fine issued for a loud exhaust. There would usually be other reasons behind the officers actions, such as "you were driving like your arse was on fire". Even if one did give you a ticket for something so trivial, I would argue it in court, there is no way you will lose. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
