Roy
can i just change the springs on my current set-up (bilstein/eibach) to increase the ride height of the car. this is to prevent the front lip from catching on things and breaking it is it just a matter of swopping springs or is there anything else that needs to be done ? thanks
BigRoy
Yes you can just change the springs to raise it! What springs do you have at the moment?
keron
you should get away with changing the springs i would think. did you have standard springs on it before?
Roy
sorry guys - i mistakenly typed in konis when describing my current set-up, i meant to say eibachs. i have edited that typo ...
Aerotop Dave
I'd also like to know if it's possible to make the car softer via changing springs. I'm not even sure if I want to do this yet, but I find the ride a bit 'crashey'. Seeing as the UK-ers are meant to be softer sprung, could I simply bung a set of UK springs in...? BigRoy
UK softness(cough) is down to dampers and not springs IMHO. Roy i'm fitting Eibachs so now im worried!
Roy
big - don't worry unless you have a very low front lip/spoiler. the ride on the eibachs are pretty good IMO ... my problem stems more from the car-wash / petrol station/ house driveway / tescos/ kebab shop places near my house that i frequent. seems like they've ganged up on me and suddenly raised the road !! i seem to be scraping / banging everywhere and this is really starting to piss me off ! especially the kebab wallahs joint !! Aerotop Dave
Oh, that's my lack of techiness being displayed, I consider the whole damper/spring to be one and the same
Roy
bah - so did i until terry gave me a lecture and an earful one day ! now i know they are 2 different things .......repeat after me class, springs and shocks are 2 DISTINCT items ! BigRoy
LOL:D
Roy
so just the springs then ? if thats the case, what springs are recommended ? for a firmish ride without too much movement yet flexible enough to deal with bumps, potholes n the rest ? keron
standard toyota ones
Steve W
.......especially the kebab wallahs joint !! ROY....... you must sort this out... IMMEDIATELY ! ! ! ! Tescos is one thing... but you CANNOT be hindered from makin' "due progress" to the Babby-Emporium ! !
Roy
but you CANNOT be hindered from makin' "due progress" to the Babby-Emporium! steve - my thoughts exactly, you are a man after my own hear ... err i mean stomach !! i think stock toyota springs are a bit too cushiony ? i am after something that is a tad firmer yet not too hard (god, i am hopeless at describing things!) any after market ones that you guys are aware of or used ? Steve W
Do they actually DO any 'pattern' springs which aren't lowered ? ? Normally, anybody wanting 'other' springs automatically wants the car ...errr.... "SLAMMED" ?? I thought my std' Jap set-up was really hard till I went for a ride in a couple of other members Soops....... .....NOT for ME I'm afraid, the "I like it low at all costs" thing ! (and 'harder' just shows up the numerous 'squeeks' I'm already chasing-out with WD/Silicon/Grease ! ! !) as soon as I put my NUR on it started 'just' touching on ramps/s'humps etc..... 'raised' it with me 285 rears and it's OK now... but that means it's now ~1/2" HIGHER than standard ! ! ! I think the UK/softer susp' would actually suit ME better ?? FatS. peter richards
hi roy , good idea m8 just smashed mine friday, trying to sort a new one :baa:
Adam W
Steve, you can have springs custom made which will be stiffer than stock but maintain the standard ride height. Price is not too bad either, maybe a few quid more than a set of Eibachs or whatever. I beleive CW can get these done.
Steve W
THAT would be better... I KNOW the lowered-look LOOKS better ( ), but, I'm just a closet-4x4 merchant really ! !
Roy
so one of CW's jobbies, toyota stockers, any other suggestions ?
