Keith C
What size tyre should I fit to my 18x8" rims? I need a pair of rears, and it has 255's on it at the moment, with 235's up front. Should I go for the same, or something smaller (245's?), or what? Cheers Keith
Guest Martin F
I went for 265's on the back as i also originally had 255's. I feel the 265's fill out the arch a bit more and protect the rim a touch more. Only thing is my rears are 18x9.5", are you sure your rear rims are only 8" wide ?? Alex
285 is the widest you can comfortably fit on a 9.5" rim so I would summise that the 8" Rim would max out at 255. I would keep the car on 235 front/255 rear. But make it the grippiest rubber you can afford. I had S-02's in those sizes till recently, they were excellent and a well balanced tire size. I'm now running 275 at the rear and I'll fit 245 minimum when the front S-02's give up. I believe that S-02's would be best if you don't do to many miles. Then S-03's, Pirelli P-Zero-C Rossi and lastly Yoko AVS's.
AJI
I'm currnetly on 245/45/r17 front and 275/40/r17 rear and upgrading to 255/40/r18 front and 285/40/r18 rear. New grip levels are going to be amazing! Even at the moment I can chuck the car into a corner and it grips like there's no tommorow, with wider rubber the car is going to stick to the ground like a ba$tard! Dunlop is a good make of tyre to use on the Supra aswell as Pirelli P0's which are the ultimate tyre at the moment, (bit too expensive at the moment though). Alex
AJI, If you do go any wider, you may find the ride suffers, also I believe the manouverability due to the increased friction and effort involved turning the wheel...but let us know what you think if you do run 255 and 285 tires
Keith C
Right - cheers for all that guys. 255's ordered, and being fitted tomorrow.
AJI
Yeah no problem Alex I will let you guys know how it makes a difference to rider quality and handeling etc. I should be fitting the new wheels/rubber in January so I'm afraid you are going to have to wait until then. I just find that the traction control kicks in too often when accelerating hard and with more rubber on the back it should cure this problem aswell as increase performance etc. Cheers, AJI
