stt
After taking the EGR valve to bits for a clean on the weekend I noticed the butterfly operated by the wastegate under the valve,I was wondering what would happen if this was removed,Would the 2nd turbo spin from start off or wouldnt it spin at all?? Just gotta wait for the repost smiley now!
stt
What so nobody in a club of 3 thousand odd members has ever thought about it or tried it??
Ian C
Well, OK, if that's at the back of the engine it's not your wastegate, it's your exhaust gas bypass valve. If you remove this you'll get no prespool on turbo #2 and a grotty transition, plus potential unlimited boost on turbo 1 until 4000rpm which is also A Bad Thing. If you meant "wire it fully open", you will have a semi-parallel mode where the second turbo tries to spin up all the time but it's boosted air can't go anyway. Nasty stall, plus turbo #1 would spin up slower as some of it's exhaust gass is hammering away at #2. Anyway, if you are interested in the wastegate and meant to remove it you'd run unlimited boost for a brief, yet spectacular, time. Then you'd buy and new engine and turbos. Again, if you mean wiring the valve fully open all the time rather than deleting it, you'd get a slower buildup of boost and you'd only ever get your minimum boost level. So, no, no-one else has thought of it or tried it -Ian
