CJ
I am looking to get an Ipod to run in conjunction with an Alpine 9850ri head unit. I have looked on flea bay and am not sure whether to go for the 30gb or settle for the 10gb. How many chunes would either of them hold and what is the difference between the 3rd and 4th generation models. Thank you for your anticipated help. smithaldo
well, the 20gb one i have holds around 5000 songs. So in theory the 10gb should hold bout 2,500 and the 30gb 7/8000 songs. Or i could be completey wrong...it has been known to happen.
Ian W
go for the most up to date one you can i'd suggest CJ. i have a G4 20gb version which is fine for me but i'd probably struggle with the 10gb capacity (i.e. get the 30gb one which will probably leave you with space to spare for future music purchases). Just installed my 9850Ri at the weekend mate and have to say it's a great unit.....good luck with the search. ps i think you can get the 30gb one from Amazon for about £190....not that much considering. (and Smithaldo is correct about the song capacity of each i think)

CJ
Well, I bit the bullet and ordered a 30gb from Amazon at £189 inc free delivery.
Ribenaberry
I have the 30 gig video, has enough room for all my songs and i can watch "special" videos on it too. My reason for buying it over the 60 Gig is purely the difference in thickness. The 60 Gig is a bit too thick for my liking. Also, gots me a 9850ri on the way too to plug it into. I was thinking of having the ipod cable run to somewhere hidden like in the glovebox between the seats, what have you guys done?

Ian W
yep, that's the only problem.......having it all right there makes it harder to choose something to listen!
