absz
if you had a wishbone replacment due to damaged then i would say that your steering rod might be bent, which might be causing the steering wheel to go out of alighment.
chilli
If it's as bad as you say, I reckon you have a good chance of finding the problem yourself. After all, suspension is suspension, it's the same principle if it were a any car. I'd take it to a specialist after I was sure I couldn't solve it myself, optermistically it could be something really obvious and cheap to fix, which you can do yourself, what have you to loose apart from a bit of time! I'd start with a visual inspection undernearth, check condition everything. I'd check all bolts are tight, they can come loose, the new wishbone ones for example... also the subframe and any other major component should be checked, all you need is a socket set and some common sense. I'd visually inspect what you can see of the bushes, if what you can see of them looks deteriorated, chances are they might need replacing, use a bar to lever the components and see if the bush gives, if it is shot to pieces often it is quite obvious! Get the wheel and yank it in all directions as hard as you can, if you feel play, it could be in the track rods ends, the rack, ball joints, bushes, wheel bearing. If you find play somewhere then you can narrow down on the problem It's all common sense, just takes a bit of time, if you are still stumped then hand it and the £ over to a specialist, at least by then you know it's worth paying the money to find something that is not completely obvious. whitesupratt
I hear you all, and thanks...its just a case of money.I will get it up on my mates rramp. I have done this twice, and visual everything looks fine. I also asked the alignment guys to see if they noticed anything out of place when doing the alignment the second. My confusion is that if i damaged the rack in the accident, why it aligns ok, then goes out, but maybe as soon as I jut disturbing by steering, roundabouts etc, that upsets it again. hmm...a lot of food for thought, most bushes look fairly grotty as its 13 years old. Although I have new Khumo's at the rear, i have one bridgestone the car came with at the front, and a newish ventus the ther front, but surely odd fronts cant make this kinda difference... chilli
well it sounds like they align it ok, but something has play on it and moves when you drive it, hence alignment is a waste of time at the moment, I've had this before on older cars, it's always something that can be replaced, trick is finding it! good luck... whitesupratt
yes! finding it is 99% of the battle! thanks everyone though!
chilli
lol I know it's stating the obvious, but you won't find if you don't take a good look, that's all anyone would do (mechanics included, just they may have a better idea of where to start). What damage did you do in the crash anyway, beyond the wishbone? there is a slim chance that some suspension part has a crack in it if it took a heavy impact...
