Any idea what this could be?

I was driving my J Spec TT Auto home earlier when I noticed that the Overdrive off on the dash started to flash perodically every couple of seconds. This had not been engaged by myself, when I did turn this button on, the O.D Off light stayed on as it should. When I turned it off again it started to flash perodically again. This lasted for a bout 5 minutes then it sorted itself out.

Whilst this was happening I did not get anyother warning lights showing there was a problemand the rev counter did not change or jump as if the car was jumping from 3rd to 4th and back to 3rd as the dash display was showing.

This is probably nothing but very odd. As anyone experience this before on a J Spec TT Auto. If so I would be very interested to recieve any news to what this could be.

Thanks

Oh yeh just purchased some pucker 19" Braid Interlagos with 275/30/19 Rear Tyres and 235/35/19 Front for my Sup. They look the business filling the arches up with a 19"x 10" rear wheel. I got the polished rims, anyone know of some decent products for cleaning (removing all the ground in dirt) and polishing.

No, but if you find some please let me know. I bought the 18" version a few months back and now all four wheels have a tarnish on the polished part. At first it just looks like some water marks, until when cleaning them you realise they don't come off. I did post a picture on here of it, I'll see if I can find the post.

On a brighter note though, when I took the car to the Japanese Performance Show and Santa Pod everyone was commenting on the wheels. Even with the tarnish they still look as sexy as ever!

I had a similar problem, but mine was that it kept doing it all the time after a certain distance had been done after initial start then would flash till engine was switched off, anyway it turned out to be the speed signal wire was not right, another sign of this is that if it is flashing, see if the active spoiler is working ok, because also when it was flashing on mine and doing the speed for the spoiler to come down the warning triangle light came on and the green light flashing on the switch.

or

it could be a dodgey speed converter?

Taken from the manual... "Contact your Toyota dealer as soon as possible. There may be trouble in the transmission system". So there you go, that's that problem solved. :conf:

Just to say I had the same flashing o/d light on my car. The most common cause seems to be loose speed converter box wiring. This is reported as code 42 in the ECU diagnostics (very easy to check on the car).

Another symptom is the main red warning light coming on. I think this is the one tied to the error code.

If this is the problem, it may well be easy to fix. I'm a bit wary of things like this now. I tried to fix mine and managed to break something else so the car wouldn't start! Chris Wilson did an excellent job of fixing it though :)
