740cc Injectors and bits - how to make them work

Recommended Posts

I've been offered some 740cc injectors, an oil cooler kit and a pair of 272 cams and possibly a pair of cam pulleys too.

Now my technical knowledge is about as good as Pol Pot's human rights record.

So I would like a techie type person to tell me what else I would need to get these fitted and working.

Thank-you

Yeah quite a fair bit..! The injectors im guessing would need some sort of resistor pack, and prob an uprated pump fuel rail and regulator..! The oil cooler would prob be the easiest bit to have fitted.! The cams would need some major engine work, the pulleys installed and set up is not to serious, (Would not mind some or at least HKS Pulley myself)..!

740cc injectors : Depends whether the are high or low impedance, whether they are side or top flow, whether the electrical socket on them is the same as the stock injectors.

Oil cooler kit : should be straightforward enough, I would have thought.

272 cams : See Tony's Valve Stem Seal guide for how much work is required to remove/replace cams - it's not too bad.

I wouldn't go for 272s though. Those are monster cams. I can't remember whether 272s make our engines interference type (capable of smashing the valves into the pistons in the event of cambelt snapperage) but anyway something less himalayan would suit 99% of Supras.

Cam pulleys : No extra work while you're fitting cams, but from what I've read on here, the stock pulley positions provide the best timing anyway so there's no need for adjustable cam gears, unless you just want them for the looks.

Only if they are over 10mm are they interference cams.

As Jake says, they are on the wild side, idle will be lumpy, and you'll lose out low down. I wouldn't unless you seek big power later. Same for the pulley's if they are old style HKS one's stay well clear!

Oil cooler - good idea - you need it to have a thermostate too...as you do want the oil to get upto temp quickly :)

Never heard of any 740cc injectors so I presume they mean 720's....they are enough to fuel a T71...(read: might be over kill!) If you're not planning to go single/big twins there is no point.

JUN 272 'b' spec cams are inteference, HKS 272's aren't.

Cam pulleys might be useful if you've gone single turbo and/or changed the cams, but on stockers they aren't much use. Avoid early HKS ones, new HKS ones the jury is still out. 5-bolt ones are better, like Jun's.

On top of the FPR, rail, aeroquip fittings, the wiring and the resistor pack, don't forget some way of controlling the bigger injectors...

To be honest if you are putting this on a stock turbo'd engine it'll probably be detrimental to all round performance.
