Basically, the ionised dilithium crystals within the power steering pump may not fully engage during cross planetary travel. In this situation, steering degradation can occur (not great as I am sure you will agree). The red button is ONLY to be used at speeds equal to or over 345metres/sec. It will fire an electronic pulse which reactivates the crystals so that normal steering can occur. If all else fails, use the search function on the forum.
