Its ment to seal leaks. Then refill with r134a refill cans. I would not use something like this for a coolant problem but for an aircon- why not. Whats the worse that can happen- it wont work- didn't anyway:)
carl0s
I've tried the 'id dynamics' Ez Charge stuff from Halfords, two cans of it, and it failed to stop the slow leak I have. Each time I would get a day or two of cold air.
JohnA
Just fill it with dye (if it isn't already filled) and check where it leaks from. Then deal with the leak. These 'wonders in a bottle' tend to create big bills in the long run, by clogging up passages. Are you sure that your aircon pump will appreciate this EZ thing? carl0s
My receiver/dryer and parts of the condenser were leaking, tested with the UV dye That was my second condensor too! I'll be buying a brand new one next
JohnA
Can't you get a pattern condenser from a specialist catalog?
carl0s
Can't you get a pattern condenser from a specialist catalog? Not sure, I haven't tried. Genuine Toyota part is £226.27 including vat, and that's with receiver and mucho pipework. ICs are still £818 with mega club-discount. (over £1000 retail!) carl0s
UK Radiators are £283, on an exchange basis :frown: - auto radiator only - don't connect the oil cooler if you're a manual
Steve
When i tried to get a new condensor for mine, i spent ages going round air con specialists to see if they could find an alternative unit but never found one. So in the end had to buy one from Toyota £230 i think

Supra-Dupra
Ok, one question, how long does it take for your Aircons to become warm air ?? Is it instant or take 1-2 mins before it blows warm air ?
carl0s
Ok, one question, how long does it take for your Aircons to become warm air ?? Is it instant or take 1-2 mins before it blows warm air ? erm, mine doesn't kick in at all now. Too much gas has leaked out so the compressor doesn't engage at all. When working the air becomes cold only seconds after enabling it.

Whats the worse that can happen- it wont work- didn't anyway:) Don't use it, it will cause more harm than good. As John says use Dye or pressure test with Nitrogen however some small leaks are a nightmare to find. Common leaks I have found are from condensors and pipe seals, on average a car may lose 10-15% of gas over a 12 month period anyway. It is also best practice to have the system evacuated for any moisture, before re-gassing.

carl0s
ok, thought it should work both ways Nope. The heat comes from your hot engine! This is why it takes time - for your engine to warm up - before you feel heat.

I do know that much at least its just a friend told me he had instant heat in his jeep because he had aircon, and always assumed it was instant heating and cooling rather than waiting for the engine to warm up Ah well on the plus side its not broke so

I have a feeling this was either a technology that didn't take off (wasn't around for long), or has never been implemented in a production car. Steve W
Don't know why ALL cars don't come with Heated Screens nowdays ? Had it on my old RS Turbo, got it on my old G-reg Sierra and it de-ices/ de-mists BRILLIANT. Fords seem to be one of the only manufacturers to have kept using it. OR, if it's a pain to put it in the screens, what about a set of heating 'elements' just in the screen air ducts ? to warm the air until the cooling system has warmed a bit ?? (mind you, the SOOP does at least warm up quite quickly...partly because of the 2,000 rpm cold idle ?????? )
