Justin
This can't go on much longer. I'm hitting 1.55 bar (22.6psi) now. The bizare thing is I fully de-catted last year with a Blitz zorst. I put in a CW restrictor plate last winter and thrashed it in cold air days to make sure I was maxing out at 17.5 psi with the plate. I got this sorted. But now I'm hitting 22.6 psi. To me this must mean the exhaust flow is escaping before the restrictor plate. After inspecting the pipe for holes my only guess is that the area where the first CW downpipe joins the engine with the three bolts is not properly screwed in tight (not fitted by CW I hasten to add) One of the bolts is not screwed all the way down but I can't tighten it any further myself seems to be locked tight. Also (rarely) when I sometimes go round a bend under boost I get an extra noise like when you blow the top of a bottle of beer. Any other reasons why I might be boosting so high? I'm gonna focus on the coupling for now but if anyone knows any extra stuff let me know. Cheers J.
MONKEYmark
bet its fun though mine goes up and down. put back in ttc mode again and it feels awesome with tc. was thinking of sticking my RING PEICE in hope you get it sorted have tou tried to make a new ring with a smaller hole to restrict it a bit more. you could have a few different rings for summer and winter. just a thought. you got ok fueling
dude
Take it to and exhaust centre and get them to heat the nuts up , take em off and replace with new , make sure they do all the way up or use a washer if you have to , DO NOT try to just keep tightening that nut or you WILL shear off the stud and then you really will be upset . Dude:flame Dev PS whats wrong with 1.5 bar ?????
Dragonball
You have boost controller? - one of the solenoids stuck open? Have you got it on a ramp? Course you have - sorry - but surely this will show any leakes from the gasket?
Need4Speed
I'm hitting 1.55 bar (22.6psi) now. I suspect your wastegate is not opening. Mine did this recently when one of the pipes to the boost controller split (so air leaking out).
Justin
I dont have a boost controller fitted.
Need4Speed
Yes, but you may have a split pipe. I originally came across this when I bought the car and it had incorrectly plumberd T-bleeders. The effect is the same - wastgate doesn't open, so 1.5bar then fuel cut (I assume).
Justin
If I can hear the stock bov tshhhhhhhhh. Doesn't that mean the wastegate is opening and functioning properly? That's a quesion not a statement. ie if I boot it from the lights then let off that's when I hear it.
Need4Speed
That's a normal bov operation, not connected to waste-gate function.
Chris Wilson
Get an old towel, soak it in water and ram it up the tailpipe of the exhaust with the engine idling, using your (shod...) foot to hold it in. If the exhaust is leaking you'll certainly here it, if it isn't the engine will stall if you seal the pipe up tight with the towel. Why is I seem to be able to fit my pipes without them blowing, using all three nuts, correctly tightened, yet other people seem to see it as a challenge for "Heath Robinson 2003"
Suprash
Funny this thread shuold come up, Im decated with CW ring, had it fitted at the beginning of the year, never hit past 1.1 all year so far until I checked my peak boost the other day, F4CK ME, it had hit 1.45, nearly 1.5 at some point, and booted it the other day and because it was night time saw the read light flash on as it hit 1.4 again. Is this just down to the cold weather setting in, seems a bit much though just for colder weather, 1.1 - 1.4. Whats the PSI on 1.1 ???? Yeah but my point Ash was that I fitted the ring in very cold weather last year to find out how big to have my ring (oowwwerr) I got down to 17.5 psi and it stayed like that for a year until now. Will try the towel trick. Chris is a genius ain't he

Leon fitted a restrictor ring in March and it kept it to ~1.1bar. Now I've fitted CW's SMIC and the cold weather is here, sometimes I'm hitting 1.4 Mostly its OK at 1.2. Justin
Patrick, all you need to do is fit a smaller restrictor plate. The addition of the new SMIC has reduced air temps which in turn has increased your boost pressure it looks like.
