Syed Shah
The Soarer has developed a odd misfire recently. It is worse when cold, and the car feels like it is going to stall/cut out. It happens from 1500rpms onwards, even on very light throttle. It clears up a great deal when the car is warm, missing mostly at light throttle between 2k and 3.5k.. If you get fully on the trhottle, it misses lightly up to 4.5k rpms, and is then fine and very strong all the way to redline. The car runs around 1 bar of boost, and has near-new IK24s in it. Help please!
Gamer
My guess is some cracks in the coil packs possibly.... When it is cold maybe condensation is causing the miss (via a crack or something). Once she warms up (and dries off) the miss will go away. I would check them out if you have not already mate.
Syed Shah
They are on the list to replace (with Supra ones as they look interchangeable), and that certainly seems plausible, especially as Soarer coilpacks are prone to cracking. Does not expalin the misfire at low rpms when warm though, or the lack of high rpm/high boost misfire (which is usally the dead coilpacks sign). Btw, while I am on here, does anyone have the part number for the coilpack harness, that has certainly seen better days and looks like a place for intermittent connections. Gamer
I don't know if you remember it or not but one of my main problems during my Soarer ownership was intermittent misfire problems. I replaced all of that stuff on my old Soarer Syed. Coil packs, connectors and also all the wiring and never had a problem after that.
Syed Shah
Haha! well my current bill with Steve Manley is £520 so may as well add to it! Which wiring did you replace? If you have the part numbers for it + connectors, I would be very appreciative.

Syed Shah
Excellent, that is ordered. Am going to hold on the coilpacks and get a HKS DLI instead, and then redo the coilpacks after that. Hopefully should kill all misfires. Thanks for the help Joe.
ardasaliah
bet its your plugs- check gaps etc. New or not they can still fail
Syed Shah
1.5k mile IK24s? They better not have! For £70 a set I expect more, and the last set lasted 15-20k. Also, if it was the plugs, I would expect high boost problems.
Ian C
Perhaps the mild misfire is masked by the sheer power of the engine when it's on boost? i.e. it's still there but you can't feel it any more... -Ian
SimonR
...I replaced all of that stuff on my old Soarer Syed. Coil packs, connectors and also all the wiring and never had a problem after that. You replaced the loom as well Joe? I'm suffering the same problem now. I've replaced the coil packs and I'll be doing IanC's connecter refurb this weekend as well as adding some insulation to them. I understand that the loom is a costly piece of kit. neil tt
I fitted a HKS DLI to mine, and changed the coil packs, and my misfire disapeared:)
SimonR
I was hoping to avoid the cost of a DLI. I was thinking of gapping down the plugs at the weekend. Currently on BKR7E at .6mm. They're brand new btw.
