No turbo noise

Hello everyone, I've not actually got my supra yet but will be picking it up later this week. If you've read my other post you'll know that I have swapped my mr2 turbo for the supra (along with lots of cash). Thing is, when I took it out for a test drive it drove sweet, nice progressive power delivery.

I was wondering, can you usually hear the turbos on these cars as i could'nt really hear any difference throughout the rev range when accelerating, after being in my mr2 which has a very obvious and loud turbo spool up noise it seemed a bit odd. It has a standard air filter box fitted if that makes a difference, its also still got the re circulating blow off valve so no whooshing noises.

If someone could just clarify this for me it would provide me with some solace that its all fine.

Thanks.

If you have an aftermarket exhaust on it may be hard to hear for the turbo also you have sound deadening/fireproof cover stuck on to the bonnet, this obviously deadens (spell check lol) the sound, i removed mine:D and now i hear my twins singing:)

Is it a UK or J-spec?? My jap turbos make avery loud whistle off boost??

when mine was standard i didn't hear the whistle of the turbos at all but since going BPU (with a loud zorst) the turbos are much much more vocal. I assume this is because they are free to spin up quicker ?

Also i still have the sound proofing/fireblanket under the bonnet.

i wouldn't worry about it TBH

This is propabaly why you could not hear them whistle before! I hear mine all day long on boost, Stock TT with no sound proofing cover. But come to think of it i used to hear my turbo whistle even when i did have the fire blanket on the car before.

The car still has both cats in place, along with all the sound deadening, and like I said, its still got the standard air filter box. Thanks for the replies fellas.

I think its just the way its meant to be. After a short while, I'll no doubt change this and take one of the cats out, new apexi filter kit and dump valve, what can I say, I'm a boost whore. :)

What are the benefits of taking the fire blanket off wkdtime?

Is it mearly weight?

Sarcasm i sense! No benefits what so ever, just hear the engine note so much more and BOV alot more now...oh yeah if there was an engine fire then its bye bye supra...but thank god i have a fire extinguisher in the back.

all the fellas with c/f bonets dont have em aswell so ill take me chances. :D

It's more likely because 'BPU' is associated with 'performance' filters

The stock airbox is meant to muffle the whistling intake sound (among others)
