n00b
hi all selling my honda on ebay (my stealth car ) and within half a day got a few phone calls... a irish bloke says hes flying in from NI to nottingham (with his bro) to pick up a civic and hes looking for another to pick up at the same time so we haggled on price. we finally settle then he says is the money ok in northern irish notes (which is fine) then he says hes going to export the car straight away to ireland... he also tried to make out i should give him the whole V5 (i told him to piss off then he rang back and made his excuses) does any of this sound dodgy or a scam... im really worried as its my first car i have sold and i dont want to get done or butt raped/smacked over the back of the head... im meeting him at 2 tomorrow cheers for your views n00b
_Rob_
hey mate, hmm, i sold my civic to a guy and his bro from N ireland. only one of them came over, he was a top bloke. paid cash, all UK sterling though, as i didnt want irish cash. i wouldnt have been sure if it was fake or not! i filled in the V5 as though it was to be exported, i gave him the whole log book apart from one little purple slip (thats what it says do on the back of the V5, IIRC). however, this was before the new version of the V5 came out, so it may have changed. shaf
so long as they pay you in legit currency, then there's nothing to worry about as you've been paid
Jake
If you're not sure about taking Irish notes just take them to your bank with the guy before handing over the paperwork. When I bought my white Supra the guy was paranoid that somebody might try to rip him off. He met me at newcastle airport as arranged but had a big mate with him. That was a fun test drive with all three of us in the car, me with my knees under my chin and the seller's minder sat behind me. I had 10k in normal UK cash on me but he wouldn't take it. We all had to go to his bank and get them to check the money was kosher before he would give me the v5. Oh yeah, when I got home with the car I found that the minder guy had left his hammer behind in the car! All this from a fellow club member too. Daston
It only sold for £1600 body wise it was mint but the engine had been seriously neglected buy the other owners and it took me alot of money to get it running well as well as a top engine rebuild, but it had done 190k miles

carl0s
I would get the Irish dosh checked out. I was chatting about crime with a customer who does printing and he was telling me how he bought the company from the guy who is currently one of the workshop guys - he got sent down for 'printing' the silver line on fake Irish notes. Maybe the Irish notes are easier to fake? Have you seen the tax discs they have in Guernsey?
Jake
Have you seen the tax discs they have in Guernsey? No, what are they like? Have you seen australian bank notes?
carl0s
No, what are they like? Have you seen australian bank notes? No, what are they like? The tax disc - well it was either Guernsey, Isle of Wight, or Isle of Man, but it was basically a printed peice of white paper! So what are the aussie notes like? Jake
Not the IoW then. They have the same tax discs we do. Aussie money is made of some plastic stuff. It's waterproof and lasts much longer than our crappy paper stuff. It also has a clear (see through) plastic window in the note which makes it impossible to photocopy (that part would come out black on the copy). And it's just generally much brighter and cheerful looking than any other money I've seen. USA money is the worst. All the different value notes are the same size and colour - pain in the arse when you're pissed.
