Rahile
hi can anyone help please got TDI pump and relay kit. fitted the relay did not get round to do the pump the same day. noticed that it starting clicking after start up, atleast 6-8 times in a row, then again after a minute or so, i thought it suppose to click only once after start up. then fitted the pump still clicking like mad. noticed once the car was warmed up after 15-20mins driving does not click as much, starts to click again 4-5 times in a row when i have all the lights heater etc. on. it also clicks when i press both buttons for the electric windows up and hold. and again sometimes during driving slowing down at junction at low revs when on the brakes. a couple of weeks ago had a flat battery, the RAC chap told me get new batt. your alternator is fine.so i got new battery Exide Maxxima 900DC. still bloody clicks like mad. checked all the wiring as per TDI instructions, then checked them again, all OK. the pump is fine, could not hear the JDM one but can deffo hear this one working(when engine on) has not effected performance in any way, in fact feels like it has more kick than before. Can anyone please HELP.
Dragonball
Err....have you thoght of trying TDI? Sorry if sounds daft but I'm sure they will be able to help with 'their' product
Matt Harwood
I'm assuming that TDI's relay is there to do the 12v modification the correct way instead of just wiring it up to 12v ignition. (the latter of which you would seriously regret if you were to have a accident and a fuel line was ruptured!). I've done this with my car and the relay does click a few times on initial start-up, as the voltage varies quite a lot during cranking and when tha car first starts. Contact Nathan at TDI and I'm sure he'll confirm this... Nothing to worry about I'm sure...
Steve W
SAME pump, SAME mod ( =TDi).... YEP, mine does ~2/3 little clicks in/out just as you start it (as Matt says, I've been hoping it's unsteady supply during the massive surge of the starter ?!) but NO clicks at all after that... ...could it be just a slightly weak relay ? ...possibly just check the connections in case one little bugger's a bit iffy ?? (I dunno !) [bTW Matt, you know I was asking about the Walbros whining ? well, mine seems to get just a tiny whine after a longer/harder drive - nothing like your 'old' one did, and I never really listened to my old Jap' pump anyway ? - not moaning, just info' ] FatS. Matt Harwood
I doubt it's a weak relay, just unstable voltage dropping below the relays efficiency range. My pump used to whine quite loudly when it had had a long run of hard use... Strange thing is, since I've put the same pump into the manual car, it's always been as quiet as a stock pump!
