Chase
Just replaced a squeeking drive belt, and noticed the crank pulley is free to slide backwards and forwards! Now, I'm assuming it's not supposed to do this. Is it a big job to replace? and does anyone know how much these are from Toyota? Cheers
D8MOA
does it have the bolt in it still?

Chase
It does yes. The centre is attached firmly, but the outer section is sliding freely along it.

carl0s
and of course, don't drive the car at all until it's fixed. Certainly don't put your head in the engine bay with the motor running
Chase
But I've been driving it around like this for god knows how long. If you look down the front of the engine while it revs, you can see the outer part moving forwards about 7-8mm

chilli
Is this something worth checking periodically then? Can you see it just run running the engine and looking down at it, or with the engine off, feeling for play...?
Jspec Germany
Sh*t, now u guys have me worried. I have a squeeky noise coming from the belt area, but I think it's actually the tensioner pully.
Soop Dogg
Someone posted a thread about this about a year ago with pics. When some other members here went to check theirs, I seem to remember at least a couple of people who found that the rubber ring which is between the inner and outer part had disintegrated and was in this condition. Worth a regular check, this.

Jiversteve
Just came accross this. Bling eBay item Pulleys for Toyota Supra alternator & crank underdrive Simple to install ADD 15 BHP!! Made in Uk ## Item number: 8047491610 Had same problem on a Celica years ago, Could not figure the squeek at first but finally sussed it when it fell off. Now that was fun getting at it with a transverse engine. Had to go in through the wheel atch etc etc.

JohnK
This is also often caused by people using heat to undo the crank bolt when changing the cam belt.
