Just replaced drive belt - Why is my crank pulley sliding freely?

Just replaced a squeeking drive belt, and noticed the crank pulley is free to slide backwards and forwards! Now, I'm assuming it's not supposed to do this.

Is it a big job to replace? and does anyone know how much these are from Toyota?

Cheers

But I've been driving it around like this for god knows how long. If you look down the front of the engine while it revs, you can see the outer part moving forwards about 7-8mm :(

if that pulley completely lets go you'll end up with a bloody great hole in your bonnet:D

Someone posted a thread about this about a year ago with pics.

When some other members here went to check theirs, I seem to remember at least a couple of people who found that the rubber ring which is between the inner and outer part had disintegrated and was in this condition.

Worth a regular check, this.

Just came accross this.

Bling eBay item

Pulleys for Toyota Supra alternator & crank underdrive

Simple to install ADD 15 BHP!! Made in Uk ## Item number: 8047491610

Had same problem on a Celica years ago, Could not figure the squeek at first but finally sussed it when it fell off. Now that was fun getting at it with a transverse engine. Had to go in through the wheel atch etc etc.

Don't even go there. Aftermarket front crank pulleys are a bad idea. :(
