MKIVDreamer
because of lemon juices' mild acidic properties, helps to *gently* clean off any crap - there was a rumour that coca-cola might also do the job...or did I dream it
Homer
here was a rumour that coca-cola might also do the job...or did I dream it Coca Cola is slightly acidic so will do the same job, but slower. Lemon juice is very acidic so simply does the same job, but quicker
Nic
Yeah that's what mine was seeing last week. Take out the O2 sensor and clean it, then replace and see if anything changes. If it fixes it you'd be best getting a new one as cleaning doesn't help for very long! If you do need a new one, I'm organising a group buy for O2 sensors at the moment, at big savings compared to Toyota Uk dealer prices, see link in my sig for details. The saving you should get in fuel costs should pay for the O2 sensor very quickly.
Jake
White smoke? I'm no expert, but I seem to remember reading something about when shopping for a car with a turbo, if you turn it on and boot the throttle if white smoke comes out the exhaust the turbo's on the way out...? It's a 3 litre engine. It's going to make a lot of condensation when cold. Condensation appears from the exhaust as white 'smoke' when cold. Day to day changes in atmospheric conditions can make 'steam'/water vapour/'white smoke' suddenly noticeable - especially if you're looking for them. "Turning it on and booting the throttle", especially on a cold engine, is a bad thing. Think of the oil pressure and oil temp before 'booting' it at all. JohnA
Your not joking right? Just get a new sensor and don't bother cleaning it. They are like little batteries and they start to expire after 50-60K miles. Even if you do manage to clean it successfully (most cleaning fluids contaminate it further) it will still be old, tired and lazy, showing leaner than it should and forcing the ECU to run richer than ideal. So save yourself the aggro of fitting/refitting. Nic does them at a good price in a 'bulk buy' thread.
