wkdtime
Ever since fitting My FMIC and Apexi induction kit i have noticed my fuel consumption shoot up, on average driving i used to get 40-45 miles (TTC) out of a tenner, i now get 20-25 (TTC) miles! on start up i do get a lot of white smoke, no over heating or blue smoke, no black smoke either (valve stem seals already replcaed 3000 miles ago) Car drives fine, boosts fine too, and no idle problems. Any ideas?? Car is TT manual, running in TTC.

TLicense
Wkdtime, You've fitted a front mount intercooler to get more air into the engine right? The engine needs to have a similar ratio of air to fuel as it did before you fitted your front mount intercooler. So now that your getting more air into the engine you'll also need more fuel. If the amount of air going into the engine starts to get to the point where the fuel injectors are beginning to get max'd out, they stay open permanently, and then you have a really rich mixture which costs you lots in petrol and robs you of power. What kind of boost do you run and also what kind of driving do you do? I mean is it driving miss daisy or is it WOT type stuff?
wkdtime
Driving 80% off boost 20% at WOT, just back exhaust, stock boost 0.8bar, ECU reset has been carried out! Any ideas on the white smoke? seems like steam and smoke together, some petrol smell aswell!
tbourner
What's the oil look like?
Mike
White smoke? I'm no expert, but I seem to remember reading something about when shopping for a car with a turbo, if you turn it on and boot the throttle if white smoke comes out the exhaust the turbo's on the way out...? This may be rubbish... but...??
ManwithSupra
More like condensation in the exhaust
tbourner
AFAICR white smoke is coolant, black is fuel and blue is oil (turbos).
wkdtime
What's the oil look like? Clear as in no white slush, coolant level is fine too, no over heating, no smoke whilest driving.

tbourner
No i havent, how do i do that mate? You need a DVM of some kind. On the inlet side of the engine next to the manifold and the cam cover, at about pot 3 kind of area, there's a black plastic cover with Diagnostic Port written on it. Open that and measure with the DVM from a good ground point to the pin called OX1 (it's shown where it is on the underside of the cap). Apparently it should read between 0.4v and 0.7V. Mine and I've read some others say thiers drop intermittently to 0 as well but according to Ian that's wrong!! If it's over 0.7 then it's overfuelling but probably won't be able to get above 0.8V as it's narrowband.
paulmann
in this cold weather smokey cars are everywhere. let the car run hot (ie go for a good spin to heat up turbo/engine) then leave it idling. if you get white smoke after a few minutes of idle then the turbo seals are going. wkdtime
Ok guys here are the results, i assume the car needs to be left running as this is how i have carried out the test, Multimeter set to volts D.C, Voltage reading: fluctuating from a minimum 0.08v to a Max 0.84V. Have i carried out the test correctly?
tbourner
Yeah that's what mine was seeing last week. Take out the O2 sensor and clean it, then replace and see if anything changes. If it fixes it you'd be best getting a new one as cleaning doesn't help for very long!
