letmeshowyou
have you considered that built bottom end that Lucifer has tho? Sounded pretty good to me!
terribleturner
Yeah i did but Sam and Greg are only up the road and they have just done Ian R's sup too. Plus i may ever be allowed to come up and do my single instillation while the engine is still out the car Plus over £5K for the full spec one is a little more than i really wanted to pay for now

Yeah good oil in there and im about 89600 odd miles (60K KM). I usually only ever see 110 tops (Oil temps that is). and if i ever go above it's only by 5 degrees most. It's the 2nd time i've had the temps rise to this level and the first was because my water pump went Like a phoenix she will rise again, better and stronger and ready for everything im gonna throw at it
Digsy
Well, from anaysing the video I can say Ian was 100% spotty-cock-on. The knocks come at the rate of one every two engine revs (about 16 per second at 2000RPM). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that lead was as hopeful as first thought
chilli
probably one clank for the compression stroke and one for the power stroke then...
Digsy
probably one clank for the compression stroke and one for the power stroke then... Nope, just one for each power stroke on the affected rod.
chilli
1 rod, 4 strokes, that would be rpm over 4 not over 2?
b_have
Or two rods?
chilli
unlikely, but possible if it were caused by oil starvation. 1 is more likely though isn't it?
Jake
1 rod, 4 strokes, that would be rpm over 4 not over 2?but the four strokes are carried out over two revolutions.
chilli
ahhh, doh! of course lol, being dumb, I'll get me coat... So most likely a single big end dead.
JohnA
Revolutions or evolutions, if it's damage due to oil starvation then there are a lot of other places that should be checked for critical damage. Bad case scenario. It *does* sound bad, but let's hope for the best...
chilli
yep of course, there is always a chance it is something else much less costly to put right lets hope that is the case

Guest 87toysupratt
rod knock for sure, been there. easy way to see is to drain your oil and check for metalic sparkles. And if you're sure you had sufficient oil in there as stated above resolve the issue. If its hard to turn over then you spun a bearing and you'll need to turn the crank for sure or get a new one. If you do the work yourself its wont cost too much to repair depending on if anything else went wrong in the engine.
