Pete
Thanks anyway sir, it's taught be a useful lesson if nothing else It explains why they're commanding a high premium, I expect a lot of people have 478 boards still to shift and only Celerons are current to fit in them. Keith C
Go LGA - no pins to worry about then... Mind you, given that you can pick up a dual-core opteron for less than £200, why not go the way of AMD? Or are you stuck in AGP land?
michael
Or are you stuck in AGP land? That's the main reason for staying with the 478 for now really - I have a nice AGP 6800GT Ultra that does what I need, the motherboard is only a few months old too so I might as well get some life out of it. I have another 478 system that only has a 1.6 CPU in too so when this one finally needs an upgrade I can swap the best bits into that. Thorin
I agree, not worth the money for the EE's. 3.2GHz normal ones should be pretty cheap now I should have thought. I've got a 3.0 clocked to 3.4, like you I'd have to upgrade motherboard, memory (to DDR2 stuff), and graphics card (as I've only got an old AGP one and any new motherboard I bought would be PCI express). Thorin
Probably more than I was wanting to spend Gamer, same with ebuyer. I was thinking a Nvidea 6600 or 6800, just can't bring myself to spend any money.

Thorin
I bought all the bits from here when i built my PC mate, they are cheap and delivery is fast to You must be one of the lucky ones, ebuyer are reknown for crap delivery and service, at least with everyone I know who's used them. I've used them before and know at least another 3 people who've been outright lied to by them saying that nobody was in when they tried to deliver. The one time I used them I ordered on the monday early, took tuesday off and no delivery. "er yeah driver said nobody was in, it'll be delivered wednesday". Took wednesday morning off, was sat 6 foot away from the door eating my breakfast when I heard something posted through the letterbox, finished eating and got up to see what it was. Driver had just put a card through letterbox and not even bothered knocking. Yeah they're cheap, but it's for a reason.
