RedM
I am after a 10m serial cable with m/f ends with 9 holes/pins. Where? Tried PC world and was told that people only use USB these days. I need to be able to connect my home PC to my RLTC. Car is downstairs and moving the computer is not possible.

letmeshowyou
give me a shout if you don't get any luck and I'll see if we have any lying around at work. I can't imagine we wouldn't have!
RedM
Digsy, Thanks for that. Should have thought of that myself. Bromy. Only 8 metres on that Ebay sale. I'm thinking 10m to be on the safe side.
RedM
What's the maximum length I can have a serial cable? Also, 9 pins/holes is correct for the com port, isn't it?
RedM
*BUMP* Went to Maplins. No-one interested in serving me. Finally a spotty gimp asked if he could help. I knew he couldn't when he had trouble finding serial cable in the Maplin catalogue index! I eventually walked out. Soooooo, still can't find any cable. Is there anywhere online that sells stupid long cables? All I turn up are US sites.
JamesG
Ebay (or making your own cable) is cheapest, but try Videk: http://www.videkonline.co.uk/home.asp?page=SubSections&ChapterID=28&SectionID=184#3070-10 They look to have what you're after. I've ordered stuff from there before and they are quite good.

Pete
We regularly buy off Cables Direct - they're a trade supplier. They have them here. http://www.cablesdirect.co.uk/productfamily.asp?catID=15&famID=55&special=&rowcount=5 If you want I can find out price, when we're ordering next and can post one out to you. milocoon
Only 3 terminals are used on the serial cable so if you wanted to you could use an extension lead or Twin and earth and solder the 3 cables to Maplin serial connectors (1 male and 1 female) or borrow a laptop from someone as once setup its unlikeley you`ll need to change settings very often.
