Crap audio from my TV

(I posted this on AVForums.com but nobody answered my post so I thought I'd give it a try here)

I have a JVC LT-37DS6FJ 37" LCD (that I bought from Gamer on here) which is hooked up to a SkyPlus digibox via SCART cable and using only the TV's integrated speakers.

The sound quality seems really poor when the menu setting for "3D Sound" is set to High or Low. It's OK if I set "3D Sound" to Mono or Off. When it's set to High or Low I can hardly hear people's voices. Music and other sounds seem ok though.

Is this normal? Are the '3D Sound' settings just for when you are using additional speakers?

Also, in the menu option for 'Sound', the top option is 'Stereo/I-II' but it doesn't allow me to change this. It's stuck with the slider bar on the left hand side and displaying O, so that means everything is in mono, right? Shouldn't I be getting stereo sound from a SkyPlus digital receiver?

In the manual it says:

Mode / Language (OO : Stereo / O : Mono / I:SUB1 / II : SUB2)

but I don't really know what SUB1 or SUB2 means or why I can't select Stereo.

Thanks for any help.

Too drunk to help much but if you are only using the internal speakers then set whatever setting to stereo. Enhanced audio modes integrated into tv's are invariably shite.

Our TV is a three yr old Toshiba that we bought only because of it's image quality (still one of the best CRTs available) and component video input. The enhanced modes (dialogue and 3d) both have faults and don't get used when running through the receiver.

I tried a different SCART lead but it didn't help.

I checked the 'scart control' and 'stereo' settings on the sky+ box but they were already correct.

Not sure what S-VHS cables are. Is that the same as SVideo? On the back of the Sky+ box I only have SCART out, RF Out or SVideo out.

I might go see my mate later and see if I can borrow his surround sound setup to try and see if it's worth buying.
