GetawayDriver
A *friend of a friend* is trying to import a late model R34 Skyline. He has tried everything to get it registered. even converting it into a caravan (don't laugh, it even had a microwave!), but to no avail. It looks as if he is going to have to fork out the 2k for an ESVA, only to see it fail on emmissions and noise before it even gets as far as an SVA. Anyone know anything or anyone that could help? I'm looking at you importers! The car has been in his garage now for almost a year. the man is close to breaking point. Cheers for your help
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
there is nothing he can do mate there is no model report for it he will have to wait till there is one made or 2009 when its 10year old. sorry dude, who imported the car for him was he advised very badly which doesnt surprise me i could of imported around 15 vvti supras to docks for non the wiser people if i wanted to and mcharged my £500 fee import fee per car but it was pointless as it cant be registered by them and then they are stuck with the car. Supragal
SOmeone explain to me in simple terms what the problem with getting a model report done is?
GetawayDriver
he imported the car himself. he did some research before and thought it would be tough, but doable to get it through. is there anywhere in the EU where it would be accepted? after 12 months he could then bring it in on EU plates right? GetawayDriver
a model report is what a manufacturer does when they make a new car. they cost big $$ i thinkarround 30k but i could be wrong.
Jspec Germany
Find someone in the U.S. military. I brought my supra with me to Germany from Okinawa and it's barely been looked at inspection wise.
GetawayDriver
thanks Germany, the supra is a little differernt as it has EGR. but i'm liking the idea of military intervention. lots of american vehicles sometimes slip though the net this way. do you know anyone who could/would help? garethr
Oh I see, so it's not a case of waiting for a VVTi one it's a case of we'll never get any more over here. AFAIK, once they are 10 years old, all you need is an MOT, so provided thay pass the emissions test.....

suprz_rz
Yes, you can track day it, but obviously you will need to trailer it to and from the tracks. At least you get to drive it spose!
mrdsukautos
The 10 year rule runs out in 1997 so only vehicles 1997 and older are applicable to the 10 year rule Sorry to say he will never get the car into UK unless a model report is made for it The tests for a model report cost between £5-7k on average and the full price has to be paid again if the vehicle fails any part of the tests, emissions being the main fail
Gazboy
How come some nobber can build a heap of shit in his garage (any kit car of your choice) and get that SVA'd, but you can't do the same for a Jap car? Also, why/how does it fail the emmisions test? What to Porsche do to get their turbo'd cars though emmisions tests- hell how the bloody hell do TVR's even become road legal?????
