Thorin
Anyone seen this before? (I had a quick search but didn't come up with anything) Bruce Crower's (yes of Crower cams fame) six-stroke engine design... http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060224/FREE/60222004/1024/SEARCH Some interesting background on Bruce himself too. Alex
I'm sure I've seen some where that BMW are looking at heat recycling...steam driving the crank...along with petrol/diesel. Similar principle but I believe the BMW system uses no water as it's a closed system. Interesting find none the less... Here's a link to the BMW system, which can be bolted to any engine... http://www.gizmag.co.uk/go/4936/
Thorin
Thanks for the link, I hadn't heard of anything similar when I read the Crower link. Although I think BMW's "Turbosteamer" makes it sound like some old steam boat.
Alex
I do think it's about time there was a better way of powering cars...pretty much all that can be done to enhance MPG's has been done or is nearly here. Camless - Digital valves (using electormagnets) will soon make the most of the gas flow. Cylinder deactivation systems are becoming more widespread on bigger engines. VATN turbo's for diesels and now even the latest 911 Turbo ( But more needs to be done to reuse the waste energy. The BMW system is a start...would be interesting to see if a formed solar cell panel could be fitted to a roof...and in sunnier climates negate the need for an alternator (which drains power from the engine)...or other things like that. tbourner
TBH I don't think solar panels are going anywhere in electric terms - they're pretty good for heating water but crap efficiency for producing electricity.

Ok so what else is there?? Must be something...hmm electromagnetic brakes...no fluid to boil and produce electricity when not being used for brakes. I think water/hydrogen power will be the way forward in the end...that'll p1ss the Saudi's off!
tbourner
What about a sterling engine? Anyone made one with any power yet?
