SkyJawa
Right, I've done a search and got a few questions! I need some new pads on my JSpec. At the moment I'm thinking CW Fast Road or Race. The squealing doesn't bother me but wouldn't mind some advice on which are best from cold, I've had brakes in the past that require a bit of heat before they do much and don't like that at all so would prefer a pad that works well from cold really. The other option I'm toying with is upgrading to UK's. Now these are a bit hard to get hold of reading the older threads but one said that Justin at Torque IC could do the whole kit, everything needed for £729 quid. So I've mailed him re that. I've got aftermarket 17s (Longchamp XR4) which have the stock sized tyres on 255 and 235, I assume the UK's would fit under? If I replaced the callipers with UK's, do I need to change the rear callipers too? (the rears are also needing new pads, so I'd still have to get at least pads if I went UK). Are there any pads which would go well in the JSpec rear callipers if the fronts were UK? Questions questions questions They are pretty low so I'm gonna have to sort this quick sharp! Scooter
Neil, i'm trying to get my brake fluid changed and CW race spec pads fitted this week. I could then let you know about the 'from cold' performance and if you wanted you could have a go to see what you think. The uk calipers are notorious for not fitting under alot of aftermarket wheels, not saying they won't fit but IMO its unlikely. Should be able to tell this to some degree if someone at the guildford meet has got uk's you can compare to.
SkyJawa
Hi mate, I don't think I'd be dissapointed with either of the CW pads, but yeah, I'd be interested to hear what you think about the cold performance - I've got a few weeks/month or so before I need to change them! As for looking at the G'ford meet - thats a good idea Just thought it might have been a good time to uprate, as I was thinking about the trackday next year and I might possibly be off to the ring! outatime
Ive got the fast road CW pads, they dont squeal and bite well from cold. The roads around here are hard on the brakes and they hold up well. Only thing is they give off a fair amount of dust, doesnt bother me though. Ive never experienced UK spec brakes so I cant compare but my brakes are a load better with the CW pads on... Also, I put some stainless steel brake lines on at the same time as the pads cos my pedal was mushy, its firmed it up quite well.
Patrick_Devlin
How much did the stainless steel brakelines cost mate?
outatime
I cant remember exactly, around £50. I got them from Paul Whiffin on a group buy...
Patrick_Devlin
Thats not bad, might give him a call soon!!! Did you fit them yourself? Is it an easy? What about CW pads, how much etc...?
womble
I've got the Chris Wilson road pads in (uk brakes) and find them absoloutley fine from cold and the squeeling isn't too bad at all, in fact sometimes there's none.

What about CW pads, how much etc...? Far too lazy/scared to fit them myself mate. I didnt think a Supra was the best car to start tampering with, seeing as ive never done brakes before. A local garage to did it and put some race spec fluid in at the same time. I cant remember how much the pads were off the top of my head, give Chris Wilson a shout. Its well worth it though if you still have the Jap brakes...

SkyJawa
Hmmmmmmmmm, just had a mail from Justin at Torque IC and he can still do everything you need for the UK brakes for that price. I'm very tempted From the old thread: I supply brand new uk brakes, which includes, callipers, discs, pads and rattle clips (everything you need short of fluid) for £729 including VAT and delivery, all pukka Toyota parts I've asked him if it gets any cheaper for a group buy (hey, if you don't ask you don't get!) Then I just need to check if they fit under my wheels. So if I fit UK's do I need to do anything with the rears or just fit uprated pads?
outatime
Most people dont bother with the rears cos the fronts do most the braking anyway. Cant hurt to put uprated pads on though. The ABS system does its best to accomodate changes in braking bias so keeping the Jap rears should be ok. I doubt UK brakes will fit under your wheels but you never know, only way to be sure is to try them on someones Supe with UK brakes...
Patrick_Devlin
Far from being any type of expert on the subject I seem to recall a thread in the past that stated that you should try and avoid uprating only the fronts. This will unsettle the car completely and may outweigh the benefits of the upgrade. I think CW was the originator of this advice
Steve W
when you SEE the difference between Jap/UK fronts, and, Jap/UK rears you'll be less bothered about brake imbalance ! ! ! the FRONTS are MUCH bigger ! ! the rears not nearly so much bigger ! ! (I'll go dig the side-by-side pics out in a mo' ) YES, it's not IDEAL just to do the fronts, but, I reckon, unless it's on a track going HARD into a sharp (damp?) corner, you'd not notice a major OVER-BRAKING at the front ? ? ? [while I was changing my fronts & backs I thought "OOOH mega front discs ! !"... then I thought "OH... why am I changing the rears ?" - honestly ! ! ]
Supragal
HISUPE- gimme one of your wheels and I'll tell you if it fits over UK brakes...alternatively someone might offer the same without having to take a wheel off your car for a night (unless you fancy a drive? lol)

Or whats this drive business? Steve - lol! I'm still toying up with what to do, I guess it hinges on whether they will fit or not will force my decision! Supragal
As in drive your car to where mine is and try the wheel for size, I was being silly though- excessive distance to try a wheel on when theres guaranteed to be someone nearer that would help out- yeah the guildford meet is always an option too! Darren
I've got Porterfield RACE pads front and back that came from Paul Whiffin. They are the nuts and have performed well beyond all my expectations. My brakes are standard other than that ie I dont have steel braided lines or uprated fluid and they are superb. IMO! NB I've only heard good things about CW pads aswell.
dude
If you sit a spoke in front off the caliper and poke a ruler thru the hole up to the caliper what does it read ???? Dude:flame Dev
