raymanuk
I would build one if you have good prepherals and your display is keeping you happy. How old is your computer? If you were going to rebuild could you not saved bits from your old one or is it too old to bother with..?

Dash Rendar
Ask your mate for the specs he's offering for £550. Then have a look at somewhere like dabs.co.uk, scan.co.uk or pcspecialist.co.uk and see if he's doing you a reasonable deal. The latter are very good for building bespoke machines to your specification. These days, I can't be arsed to build them myself because you don't really save any money... Not like in the old days! Todd
just for a comparison, Dell do this for £399 DimensionTM 3100 Intel® Celeron® D Processor 346 (3.06GHz, 533FSB, 256kB cache) Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005 512MB DDR2 RAM 17" Analogue Flat Panel Monitor (17.0" v.i.s) 80GB Hard Drive (7200 RPM) Spec wise that's quite similar to your mates, big price difference, the other thing is will your mates come with a warranty?
